category: general [glöplog]

After watch this year assembly.tv I want to know when somebody will begin a tv broadcast system like nectarine but with demos fulltime!? rocks!

It would require a LOT of bandwidth, and someone would have to video capture a lot of demos, but if someone had the time and money it could turn out great.

Well, trace and everyone else...
I can just say for the moment...just be patient, pals... ;-)))
It's surely not for nothing what I'm working on since quite a while...and it developes for sure...but it still needs some (short) time as termos is surely right...
Money is surely one _main_ problem (sad but true...) :-/

But I won't give up... ;-) That's also _sure_ !!

Bye,
Weasel

...this is surely just a _very_ small glimpse of the real 'beginning'... ;-)))
...and 'yes' ..._any_ kinda help is also very welcome if meant also _real_ !! (simpliest thing might be: crossing your fingers for the whole project here at least! ;-) )

This would be only possible to put into action during parties and would require roaming reporters. It could be hard to make live transmissions but do they need to be live? How about an archive of video reports from different parties?

ultimate gas, yes for example. I'm happy to hear that weasel is doing this, if weasel is working then will be great! encourage!!

Yes, that would rock. main problem would be the time and effort required to capture enough demos, and convert them to suitable formats. Perhaps some collaboration with the demo dvd makers would be a start?

Bandwidth should not be a huge problem if the video is available as 1 or 2 multicast streams at not too high bitrate. Finding a decent codec for the video could be an issue too, as some demos are quite detailed, others have fast motion, and there are lots of fades etc.

Weasel: If you're seriously working on something like that, I'll help if I can. Not got a capture card or a spare server so I'm not too sure how though :) I have some good knowledge of networking + some video though, so email me if you think I can help.

Many demos for Amiga and other 'exotic' platforms are already available on the web, as you may or may not know...
www.amidemos.org would be a nice start when you want to build a nice playlist of demos :)

Many demos are available. An amiga demo channel is certainly a possibility. But few pc demos are, mainly some older demos that are hard to run, some newer ones with high hardware reqs, and the ones on demo dvd... probably not enough for a successful demo.tv

I'd say at least a few hours of solid demo footage would be needed as a starting point. at 24 hours + it would be really good...

Oh yes, and wild demos would certainly help :)

Hey guys...
Thanks for the nice words... ;-)
Well, the reason why I didn't spread any big words about my (kinda huge) project(s) till now was/still is that I don't wanna spread 'just rumours' which might not yet work out the right way...so I had lots to do the last few months/years to start building everything up to a certain state to finally begin then... ;-)

Believe me...I'm working on my idea since quite some while now and I've got surely lotsa concepts of various ways to start nice broadcasts...
Technically it's everything at start I'd say...(technically means..whole office environment, heavy editing suite and stuff for producing hours of some nice 'demo.tv'... ;-))) ) And believe me...all that surely was NOT cheap!! :-/
And I'm not just talking about internet-streaming of course... ;-) (That's just _one_ part of the whole then!)

All this (my) engagement is meant to heavily _push_ the scene in various ways...so be patient... ;-)

To everyone offering help here already...
Please do me a favour and just write me a short _personal_ mail...so that I can gather those people here better in my daily work...and contacting them one by one then for more serious talk then...

Also _pleeeease_ *everyone* here...do me a favour and *DON'T* spread any big words all around already (scene mags or anything!!)...as this might be able to spoil a LOT of the whole thing in the end!! (Or do you really like another 'GIGA tv'...!? Guess not!! All germans might know what I'm horribly talking about here!! ;-)) )

Either way...there's still some pre-work to do...before having the chance to go finally public...so if anyone here really thinks to be able to support this project in any way (e.g. prof. web-design, editors work, graphical things etc...) then don't hesitate and please write me a private mail!!
And if you might live even close to my place here and also want to help...write _even_ faster then as well!! :-DD

Thanks again for all the nice words here...this surely motivates and shows me that I might not be too wrong with all my ideas and the general project I'm working on since some time! ;-))

And be sure of ONE thing at least: I _won't_ ever give up and my goal is also surely NOT to exploit anything of the scene!! :-D

I'm a scener since ages (1984)...and I _know_ what I'm talking about and what *fairness* means/should mean !!! Be sure of that!

Bye,
Weasel

...Keep The Scene Spirit Alive!! :-)) It rocks!!!

...btw: you will surely meet me at Evoke and Buenzli where I will do further serious reports of (=> another needed pre-work bit! ;-) )

that would surely kick the major ass :) keep on the good work.

So you thought opening a thread on pouet.net would be a good idea to keep it quiet? :)

But anyway, you say demo streaming is just a small part?
Do you also plan to produce demoscene-related programs for generic TV broadcasts or something?
added on the 2003-08-14 11:51:03 by Scali Scali
If the streams are already available (and I'm assuming that party reports, interviews etc would be added to the content), then you'd actually have something the tv companies would be pretty interested in.

It would also be fun to make a mobile pirate tv station travelling through the cities of europe, if anybody actually had the time and money :)

Scali:
Well, maybe true...but _I_ didn't start this thread here! I just saw it and surely thought twice if I should reply on it here really...
Well, I did...just to show a bit of my trials and already done work I'm planning on and on which my company here is based on...
So that people here are a bit mor informed about (near) future happenings then... ;-) (and I guess most of 'em here are sceners anyway...so it's more or less 'inside scene information')

I surely hope that it wasn't a mistake in the end! Also true! ;-) But future wil tell...and like someone said as well: 'no risk, no fun!!' right? :-)

Scali2: For your last sentence... yes !! ;-)

Psonice: I'm sure of that! For my current feedbacks there's surely a chance of placing such a project. It's just a very 'sensitive' work...as tv-people are pretty very 'conservative' in many ways... ;-) But I will know how to deal with 'em...to get through with it... ;-)

And thanks for your email...will reply on it soon then! ;-)

Bye,
Weasel

...ok...and to really let this thread 'die' for good...I guess I won't reply to much more posts here then from now on! Everyone interested in anything or offering help...please write me a private mail...
The public/whole scene will get informed when 'time has come' then... ;-)
Otherwise there will really leak too much information which will end up in 'weird' rumours...which might not be the truth then anyways... ;-) So please just be patient everyone.

Weasel: it was surely a good idea to post here. It's better to have some people helping you make your project successful than having another 5 people starting their own little projects!
