I think the democompo at asm this year was proof that the scene is more alive than ever.
I have never seen so much quality stuffed together in a single compo.

hmmmyeah. The scene has been dead for years, and continues to be dead. It has kinda become an essential attribute of the scene that it's dead. Or dying. And I guess it will continue being that way for a few years. Evolution in death, aint that innovative?

The scene is so fucking dead! Just look at the demo entries for Assembly 2003. Amazing!!

Hopefully everything we become even *more* dead at Evoke 2003. I swear, when the scene is dead it comes up with the coolest shit.

And I'm hoping 2004 will be at least as dead as this year.

I've got to open my plans of how can someone kill the scene. Perhaps wipe it from his brain. That's what I am trying to do currently..

The scene will be dead when no more demos are released for a while. And then it may be reborn, like many of the groups that died.

I think that people who think the scene is dead are thinking of the scene as it existed in the past. And yes, the 1993 scene is most definitely dead, no new 1993 demos have been released for 10 years (unless somebody found an ancient prod that never got released, and released it now...)

The scene is what you made about it.
For instance French demo scene is mostly made of whiners that keep saying that the scene is dead but will never move their ass to produce anything worthwhile.
So far I know, the scene I'm living in is not dead. And assembly'03 was fucking alive and kicking for me, general quality of production was fucking good.

whizzter, liked your post. I think the demoscene is not dying. Plus I think that nothing ever truly dies because everything eventually turns into something else and at least leaves some sort of legacy. If my interest in the demoscene is any indicator (since I am somewhat new having seen my first prod in '97, and I am irregular because I am in the US,) the scene is not about to fall. I like the people who do demos, and I hope they continue the hard coding and tracking and graphics work.

When all the great groups of old abandon their quests, and the orgas of the main parties succumb to the dark forces and leave the parties in ruin, a time of great darkness will fall upon the scene.

But the legends of old will be a burning light in the souls of the true sceners, and a great struggle will begin to restore the scene to it's rightful glory, and many brave coder-heroes will step forth in battle. The way will be difficult, and many will fall before their demo is completed.

But after many years of pain and strife, the forces of evil will be destroyed, and the decay and emptiness will be cast aside to make way for the true leaders of the new age.
