Making samples for Octalyser/Protracker STE

category: general [glöplog]

How do I make samples to use in my tracker music? I've heard there's a way I can make the samples on my PC, to be used on the ST.
just save/convert the samples as 8 bit mono samples. then you can use them for the st.

and you have to check the samplerate... I suggest 25khz.

Ataris are built to last. Thanks to clever engineering, dropping an Atari from a 20-storey building will barely even scratch it.

Sure about that?
I mean, if this does not call for Myth Busters (tm), I don't know what will.
Battle Droid: lol, good one... did you ever use an atari? They break like every other computer (incl. amiga) ;)

Surely not WAV...
What file format?
.iff ?

krang: normally .iff .spl .wav are all "raw" formats so there won't be any problem. the only thing I remember is, sometimes you had to recalcualte the sample with an offset of 128 depending what format it was. but just try it, you will hear it immediatly.

all raw formats:
.iff amiga (perhaps packed?)
.spl atari (raw)
.wav pc (raw)

And if that doesn't work either, if protracker ste is anywhere like other (pro)trackers, it just loads any file as a sample, and if it does not recognise the header, assumes it is 8 bit 22.5khz. This means that if your conversion software supports ".raw" or something like that, it will save the sample without any header info and the tracker should be able to read it. make sure you convert it to 8bit 22.5khz first.
