Untill it was suddenly sold to a bizzare christian cult. without going into all the detail, it was political mess up as bad as they come, and then they spend a lot of time smearing the situation in the press, and obviously the kids was the best thing that could ever have happened to the incompetent political hairdos when they stampeded.
That place was special, but there is no doubt that it towards the end got infested by international militant autonomes, that used it as a recruiting ground, but this was not supported by all the kids, far from it.
It should give you a hint that what im saying is not completely off, if you take a look at the amount of forreigners that was arrested during the riots.

francis, sure enough. i just don't see how any situation justifies trashing the place. here in holland, when i was 16, they had just installed a new "higher high school" (bovenbouw) system, with easier math and stuff but more different subjects. it was implemented step by step, but when most schools started doing it, some idiots organised a "strike" by 16 year olds, who'd all go to The Hague and protest. shitloads of em showed up, because of course it's a cool excuse to skip class, and the whole place (the "malieveld" and areas around it) got trashed. any politician who came to speak (no matter from which party) got tomatoes thrown at, because hey, tomatoes, fun. moral of the story: teenagers are cool, i was one only a short time ago. a huge bunch of teenagers together means your place gets trashed. no reasons needed.
i must admit, i didn't know the whole political background thing, and what you're saying makes a lot of sense. i don't really care who fucked up. fact is, a shitload of kids destroyed stuff, and justified it because something was taken from them. fuck it, you just don't do that.
