Isn't that classified, not that nobody knows that, but...? :DFlynn: and there is no such thing as shaders on wii by the way, it has a fixed pipeline.
NeZbiE: The original xbox had shaders, the gamecube had a nice architecture that allowed you to do nice effects on par with SM1.1 reasonalbly fast... I'm not really sure of what I'm saying :)
I've read gamecube's official SDK docs.
I don't recall having any shaders on Wii, I guess you own a model I don't have :)
actually Crysis does live up to its buzz, specially as the most beautiful and realistic fps ever, just forgive the vista/dx10 marketroism, and i would find funny a pouet thread like "the ugliest crysis screenshot" :D
im not arguing that the game isnt, and doesnt look great, but if i was to belive the hype surrounding it. It would look better than reality, at a higher resolution, AND theplot would make more sense...well actually on that last one....

but I'd hardly say that the water shader sucks
if I think if it looks bad - am I allowed? thanks, asshole.
and furthermore, this whole "have or have not shaders" argument is also silly.
the capability to SHADE does not rely in you being able to type vs/ps "asm" or compile your shitty HLSL or whatever to what until a few years ago used to be fucking register combiner structs. shader is an abstract term. as opposed to the hardware you implement them on. in whichever way
FYI, when flynn says "wintendo", hes refering to a "windows pc used for games"
as for me, i was referring to the idiots in general. i must say that 'wintendo' crack is at least ambiguous tho.
Niels: Easy there, pal. There's no need for name calling, okay? You seem to be stressed. Spend a few days using NetBSD on SPARC64 hardware and you'll feel much better :)
after I reread your post I realized was a little too quick on the 'asshole' thing yes -- sorry :)
Try mario sunshine on gamecube for great looking water. Not exactly realistic, but great looking to me at least.
Just Cause has the best water effects I've ever seen. It'll be hard getting close to that!
I thought Beyond Good and Evil(marvelous game) had awesome water, my fave that i've seen.
Crysis physics is pwnage http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/133891.html
and pwnt too :D http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/135187.html

Crysis goes debris! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaHS-y_mapQ
that last one kicks total ass. A theme that has been done to death, yet i still love it. boxes that do stuff are co0l, period.
Even though the physics doesn't entirely feel right, the number of cubes manipulated is quite stunning.

Seconded! Though I haven't been playing more recent games with water much. :)
Debrisman on windows xp!
I keep thinking about the massive scale of this physics engine and it makes me so incredibly jealous. The physics engine I've been developing in my free time supports around 200 simultaneous interacting cubes (relatively close and bunched up) on at a decent frame rate on an average computer (lowend c2d). Obviously, my work in comparison just plain sucks.
Do you guys know if there are comparable open-source engines? I've used ODE in the past (actually, my current engine is heavily inspired from it).
Gah, I'm so depressed :-)

nezbie, looks closely: "fps: 5.8" :)
maybe we should just put in a video of debris saying "cryengine2 physics test" or find out some story of how debris is actually a hacked version of crysis... surely would get a few more views.
another astounding crysis meets debris video... not real-time though :> (tutorial here)

hear hear, that whole game looked absolutely gorgeous
Sorry, but i still don't understand all this fuss about Crysis, because as a game, it's simply crap. And there will be FarCry 2.... And if anyone wants to try Halo 2, well, don't do it :( The devs probably forgot that PC users usually don't use gamepads, so the mouse input is totally f...ed up, Pre-Doom3 look in overall and this FOV..... who came up with it? Bioshock is the only later game title which was really good, though, those "console conversion" problems plagued it as well a bit. No System shock3 of course. But still really a game.
Anyone played STALKER? The name may suggest another stupid FPS, I thought so too. In fact, it's very atmospheric game, far from stupid. GREAT engine. First time I saw so good and fast soft shadows, on appropriate HW. Nice "half-linear" design. Can't wait for Clear Sky.
And yeah, i found out, that the best cure for stomach problems is to run any later "game" MADE by EA (not published, they usually suck too, but not all of them). Your problems will be gone after few minutes :)
