Atari Quits Making Games
category: general [glöplog]
Atari will no longer develop video games the company said on Tuesday. The industry pioneer will continue to distribute games as a publisher, however.
As part of the restructuring, CEO David Pierce resigned and the company will license its last remaining property, Test Drive, to parent company Infogrames for development. Atari previously sold its Driver series to Ubisoft and Stuntman franchise to TQH.
"Having fully departed the game development business, Atari said it will focus on acquiring, publishing, and distributing parent company Infogrames' games, as well as those of 'other selected partners,'" reports Wired.
The news comes as the once venerable video game maker continues to struggle both financially and strategically in the industry it helped to commercialize.

It was about time those info Infogrames lamers stopped trying to use the Atari brand as a diversion to mask the mediocrity of their games and their management.

North and South \o/ all-time classic!
That's one good step to stop ruining a name.
keops, yeah Brunno Bonnell made some great PC-games for Inforgames in mid-90th. I just checked that "In April 2007, Bruno Bonnell resigned from his positions as Chairman, CEO and Director of Infogrames and also left all his positions within Atari and the Infogrames group of companies."
Games are dirty buisness nowdays.

sorry, Infogrames.
Grossly behind the times me seems to think they stopped making games around the time of the JTS reverse merger when they tanked their Jaguar stuff...
Yeeess! Amiga wins!
Weren't Atari working on the new Alone in the Dark? That better still come out or I'm gonna kick some ass!

With the CD32?
I think that Tramiel era Atari were just hanging on and waiting for Commodore to go bust first at the end!
Atari still made video games?
Eden is doing that new Alone in the dark as far as I know. If Atari chokes, they'll find another publisher.
atari, isnt that some japanese rockband? :P
Atari are still playing rock?
wow, more piss stains on the brand. thanks infogrames!
wouldn't it be nice if some innovative company on the rise bought the atari brand?
tough luck.. it's purchased by some over-the-top suckers who overestimate the size of their wallets.

Good new games come out rarely these days, just a one more reason for that.
Thanks Niels, that's put my mind at rest.
Well then, I don't care if Atari disappear, they were pretty crap anyway. :)
