There's a demoscene group on Facebook with 80+ members last time I checked :)
And yes, as the original targeted demographic (U.S. college students), I unfortunately happen to have one.

I am already in pouet, blogspot, myspace, last.fm, orkut, okcupid, myocd, myanxiety, emoscene and various forums and community sites too and can't keep on truck most of them. I don't have much time for all these anymore, not that I spare my time for programming or something more creative, time is lost and I don't know where it goes while sometimes I just don't want to care. And so I also don't know what's this new Facebook thing and maybe don't wanna know. It's all a mess now ahhhh..

PS I WANT YOU IN MY FESSEBOOK!!!!!!!
I like it because it's stalking and socialising without having to get up an do anything - I'm addicted to Scrabulous and I joined the Demo or Die group which to be honest has not benefited me in anyway whatsoever.

I don't like it because it feels like an arms race to see who can get the most friends. I think if someone you haven't been in contact with for 10+ years suddenly feels the urge to stalk you and to add you as a friend then it's just a numbers game to make themselves look cool and popular to other people who want to look cool and popular.

Perhaps before they get trigger happy with the add button they should consider the fact that there was probably a good reason for the lack of contact in the first place.

faecesbook.

i don't care for more social networking stuff than I already do. every week another web2.0socialnetworkcommunitystuff-thing pops up.

@mg: true. in the german social network I'm in I always reject people adding me as a friends if I don't consider them friends in real life. what use would it be if I'd just add anybody?

When I first joined Facebook in April there were ~ 400,000 users on the London network, now there are 1,597,191 and if you keep hitting refresh you can watch it grow. It's like the MSOffice version of MySpace - it's only good because everyone uses it.

What is Web2.0? Seems a bit of a marketing buzz word. I don't see anything in recent times that couldn't be achieved before.

Web2.0 is when ppl started making mass sites saying what they think thinking that everyone cares about them ;)

if you need web2.0 to keep up with friends, it's quite sad actually
I have a facebook account, and regret it. Yesterday, somebody sent me a 'superpoke', and a 'vampire invite' that means I can 'start biting other chumps'. Anyone know where the 'unjoin' button is, I prefer not to waste my time on pointless bollocks :)

Well, if you know me and have a Facebook account, you're more than welcome to add me as a friend :)

psonice: Somewhere under the 'account' link in the top right I think. It's actually quite therapeutic quitting facebook... it's really pushy about trying to get you to stay, but it gives you a little text box in which you can vent your anger (yeah, as if anyone's going to read it). This was mine:
Quote:
No, I do not want to be invited to today's latest Pirates vs Monkeys / Poke Me With A Stick Of Salami application. However, it appears that if I want to opt out of being spammed by applications, I have to block EVERY GODDAMN APPLICATION individually whenever it comes along. Apparently there's a greasemonkey script at http://tech.karbassi.com/2007/09/19/automatically-block-facebook-applications/ to do mostly what I want, but if people have to install Greasemonkey scripts to fix your broken site, then it's a sign that YOUR PLATFORM SUCKS. Bye bye.

...There should totally be a social network for people who get pissed off at social networks.

psonice: the most annoying thing imo is people you don't give a shit about and who send you a "friend request" because they saw you as a friend of one of their friends and becaue they met you once in their life and talked to you 2 minutes.

Either you ignore their request and thery will get upset.
Or you accept his request and you get upset, getting flooded with their status changes and retarded activities notifications :)
