Stupid question about amiga bios - legal?
category: general [glöplog]
The only Amiga wich I got is CD32. Cool stuff, but the best demos/games/shit was done on 1200 etc. There's no problem with downloading Amiga bios, except one - is it legal?
Most of the official docs which I've read say simply NO. But, if I remeber correctly, CD32 is based on 1200's hardware, so will I break the law by downloading 1200 bios for emulator?
And yes, it's important for me to have it legal.

considering it's not even sure legally you can transfer the bios from your own machine back to another system, I would say, pick your poison!
(Doesn't Cloanto sell the bios?)

A cd32 contains a rom 3.1 with a bit of extra stuff to allow booting from cd and thing like that, but is an amiga to the very core. So, I think you should be covered by dling any other rom and using it on a emulator.
yeah, cloanto owns the right to it i think, so it's probably not legal unless you buy it from them. i see nothing wrong with downloading it, though. i mean, it's a 15 year old video game system.
I've just checked the Amiga Forever... cheapest version costs 30$... :/ So I will just dl the 3.1 kickstart and that's all... Thx to all.
OMG LINDE THX TO U THE INDUSTRY GETS KILLED> :D
to anybody actually buying that kickstart, and thinking yur helping amiga with it: ...

praising atari i guess :D
perhaps Atari should buy up Amiga. Or vice versa, depending on what brand is the most worthless ;)
Pssst. I've got 1.3 and 3.1 for a few years. But don't tell anyone :)
BTW, as far as i know, if you have original Amiga, than using it's BIOS with e.g. WinUAE is absolutely legal. How to transfer it is another problem.

The Atari names has been used to release some seriously shitty games, but at least they made a buck or so. Amiga Inc made what, a quarter, a danish crown and a shirt button in revenue the last four years? :)
