Most dos demos have a hard time running on current pcs, even with a strong effort of emulating old hardware (gus/soundblaster). Most Newer windows demos are so tied up to the windows platform, and the platform itself is so complex, that even with mature emulators (like wine on linux) you'll be like if you actually manage to run a couple of them. And I am not even mentioning performance issues here, combined with the burden of emulating a different architecture (x86).

You will be lucky if someone has ported old machine emulators (C64, Amstrad, Spectrum) over to the mac. Also, I remember Amiga could emulate mac quite easily in the past, there is a possibility that there is an Amiga emulator for mac.

But the bottom line is: if you really want to watch alot of demos today, you must have windows (and a PC of course). Actually, that's one of the only two reasons I keep a windows installation on my machine (the other one being games).

Nice to see a Mac scene! I never heard of that before. I sent the link to my brother in law cuz he was once an Apple sales rep.

For non-mac demos try: (etc etc)

I like how they fence themselves in as not-really-in-the-same-dimension sceners :)

Nah, Shiva, don't be so malicious. Macs are nice... heh... demoplatforms... hehehe this really sounds funny... muhaha... But whatever!

Actually the scene was born on the Apple-II. There were the first examples of groups being organized, BBSes set up, ASCII logos drawn, software being pirated... However, the entire thing was of very small scale, and the scene has received its today's form on the C-64. Hence, funny, but the scene is originated from the Apple, and moreover, from the United States...

Tomcat: so you suggest nelius to switch to an Apple-II in order to be a real scener? :)

Nelius: Have you -tried- macloned/macrostrange? They work brilliantly in Classic environment on my iBook.

Actually the Apple-II is a cute machine. Did you know that the assembly code that's displayed in the T-800's view, in the movie 'Terminator' was actually an Apple-II kernel dump? MOS6502 rewlz... (until 6510 is n da house, ehe ehe ehe =)

Kind of strange that theres no mac scene. Should be as good a demoplatform as any other really.. It has graphics and sound capabilities that far exceeds platform like the texas instrument calculators that seem to be in fashion for some sceners. Or the amiga for that matter... ;)

Many Java demos also work Mac, although there aren't that many worth watching. Atleast the demos made by Komplex are worth the try :-)

There are three reasons for no Mac scene, or at least not much:

1. These machines are quite expensive, usually used for professional purposes, not as a home computer.

2. Apples are not able to display any resolution smaller than 640x480 since 1984! So it's no wonder they were never too strong on animation playing. Without fast screen update, games and demos are impossible to make. By the way, a platform without games can hardly become a demoplatform.

3. The Mac was mainly used only in the USA till around 1998, and it's still not widespread in Europe.
