The pouet forum has been a funky hellhole ever since the site became popular in 2002 or so. The mods/devs never cared. I wish we could at least vote for threads and bury all the copycat bs threads quickly.

One thing about slashdot that bothers me is the horrible way of chopping up threads due to moderation. They need to get some proper CSS to allow for more dynmic content. What I have seen from digg does not look that bad. Although digg is horrible.

Pouët.net is the only place in the internet where you can find really lots of demos (introinferno and demozoo are not quite there yet) and as such it shouldn't have all this shit. But it's also known that the demoscene is for demosceners... I've forgot where I was going. Maybe something like: "Do you want moderation? Go to scene.org forums."

Few things.. [warning serious stuff coming up]
1. Moderation is HARD. The more active it becomes the less you get actually interesting stuff. Unless of course you like either endless stream of basic newbie stuff or total inactivity. Good moderation means that you respect the users and e.g. let them flame the hell out of you. Deleting/locking topics and continuously moving "offtopic" stuff around isn't respect. Idiots/spammers/etc people who have fucking obviously come to a wrong place should be gotten rid of asap, not tormented with various administrative tricks like short-time bans.
(another no-go is a slashdot-like system which is based on the broken idea that the "average opinion" makes any sense but I've joked about that before)
2. Pouet bbs is not (currently) a technical forum. If you want to make it one you need to make it not the casual crapfest it is which in turn involves destroying it. Of course one could circumwent the problem by making it a subforum but where's the sick despotic fun in that?
3. Pouetization has its place. It's an way to shut down a ridiculous flamefest or other retarded topic without moderator interference. Unlike with the latter option it's still possible to turn it back into something meaningful if the idea has wings after all. Too bad it's somewhat overused these days.
4. Trolls? Bah. Sceners are real people and the bullshit they generate is mostly genuine. If you want to pretend the forum is for sceners you have to live with it.

I think a troll infested web site is far better than having no communication at all.
And to be honest: There are not that many new demoscene relevant topics anyways. The BBS would be quite a slow place without all the off topic stuff. If that was cut off we just would have party announcements and people complaining about gfx-drivers.
