new download button
category: general [glöplog]
i dislike the new download button because i have to leave the prod page and have to do a click more (it's getting more complicated now).
won't this button cause pouet much more db traffic? all the queries for prod page, then simple downloadpage and then again (i will go back) the prod page stuff... ?
and i cannot right-click and open in a new window, since it's a button :\
others?

my 2cents:
the prod <TABLE> layout should be revisited to remove the 4 void <TD> and use the space gained to do something like:
main url
mirror #1
mirror #2
search engine #1
search engine #2
even if it may increase the height of the <TABLE>

the xxx url might be replaced by some icons ( one for the main url, one for the mirrors and one for the search engines or maybe less )
The extra click aside, for all the reasons PigPen mentioned...it's *hideous*! It clashes with the good old design (compare the submit button with the dowload button) and is just sitting there like nobody's business.
Graft-on design, all the charm of sewing a pair of legs to a hamburger.

I don't like it either. Make it go away please.
i don't think it'll create more traffic, since that on more than 90% of the prod pages i go, i don't download the demo.
as shifter said, the button is quite ugly : a bitmap button would be nicer.
i still like the idea of giving explicitely ("got a 404 error, then try the mirrors") several links and mirrors, it should help pouët newbies and non-(sceners/computer addicts) to get the files.

100 % agree with PigPen
it's very loud to use this ugly grey button, because i download every prod i comment, and i use a tool for the download which trap the urls links easily, and with a button and a new page to load it's uncool to browse :(

please, replace the "ugly button" by some neat icons that point directly to the download/search urls
Most sane people use download managers to download prods from pouet. We are clever enough to distinguish if something is a direct download or a link to a page which contains the direct link.
I'd like to see myself downloading 20mb+ prods using the browser handicapped built in downloader. With a 56kbps modem connection that is. Or I would like to see myself searching the html source to get the actual download link for the above prods. Ouch.

I don't like the button too. But I liked the idea of a button to move me on the ftp search links. I mean I liked this new feature, we should definitelly keep it, but in a diferrent way. One idea! Have both this button and another button on the same table which will download direct from the first address the user submitted.
I'm listening, trying something else.
Sorry for the bad 1st try ^^

Analogue: The new one is better than the button or the previous things. tnx! (now i only want a 'more' link on the most recent comments table:D.. something like a list of comments given in the past 24h or such like the oneliners screen)
indeed, that would be useful. every other field has a more button, so why not add one to the comments?
because there is no comment list yet =)
what'd be the use of a page displaying only prod-comments ?
explain me and I'll add it =)

Analogue: It wouldn't be necessary to check pouet every 30 minutes if there would be a longer comment list :)
more than one year ago, it was possible to keep a track of ALL new comments added on pouët just by checking the site once a day =)
yep, the problem is, if you're away from pouet for a while and you check back to read the newest comments, you might've missed some of them in the meantime (if more than 5 were added). i'm very interested in the opinions of others about the different prods, so firstly i'd like to read the comments just out of pure interest, and secondly sometimes somebody digs up a demo added a long time ago which i had totally forgotten to comment on. it would simply be useful to keep track :)
it's me again :) i just saw that within the last 24hours 203(!) new comments were added. now, if i'm away for a day or two, i'm missing several hundred comments which might be interesting to read :|
then what about a spot-list where you can "spot" demos and a link to that in your profile? =)
is it all going nuts now? :)

would be nice if you could "spot" some platform/category/groups... ^___^
Simply add a "more..." link below the latest comments box. If you click on the link, a detailed list of all the comments in the past 24h should appear.
And it would maybe also nice to see WHO made the comment (place the avatar of the poster next to the prod link...)

thanx. :)
Thanks analogue!
cool that you added the new feature so quickly, it's really useful :)
