Not going to turn this into a discussion thread, but a few comments on questions:
eye: You can read about his thoughts at http://crest.untergrund.net. Basically his life sucked in each and every aspect, and he was completely unwilling and unable to change it. He was pretty much incompatible with the rest of this world. Watching demos has been the only sunny spot in his life for years already. During the last 10 years, several sceners started rather big attempts to try help him change his life, but with absolutely no success whatsoever - the very opposite has happened - due to people pointing out to him where he needs to change he dropped contact to them. His suicide therefore didn't come as a surprise to those knowing him, it was the last option that really made sense.
sparcus: He made comparable remarks next to everyone he met during the last 2-3 weeks or so and especially during Evoke. Replying to "see you" with "not going to happen" and things like that. So yes, the decision probably already was done by the time he had given you that remark.
Regarding the source of this: This morning police in cologne has drawn him out of the rhine river - after Evoke, he didn't return back to Berlin anymore. Due to various traces to Evoke, police contacted the Evoke organizing team.

I never met Crest but I loved his article and tips about dos demos and alot of other stuff. Rest in peace and may the scenes of heaven guide you.
Really sad - and this really puts emphasis on the fact that you need to have a (good) life apart from the demo scene, I think.

Maybe someone can make some kindof memorial page with comments from this thread (and i guess also other communities). Seeing crests pages where hosted on untergrund could make it possible to have the memorial page as frontpage, I'd rather see his original site being left intact however.

numtek: There are thoughts about doing a funeral demoshow event - I guess he'd like that. But I don't yet know if this is realistic, and unsure where he'll be buried (Cologne or Berlin). And AFAIK, nobody from the scene is in contact with his parents.
stefan: Yes, a memorial page as doorway at his website is planned - that's better than modifying the existing content. If anyone is willing to contribute a screendesign/page layout, feel invited.

i got those sad news from robocop today via email - i dont pay much attention to the demoscene recently, but i was a bit shocked. crest was a very special person, in his very own style. rest in peace
