I recently ordered a pair of Grado SR60's it was a tie between that and a good pair of sennheisers, but they are way to expensive.

I'm not an audiophile but anyway... I have Koss PortaPro headphones.

I have a pair of Beyerdynamics for home use and 2 pairs of Sennheisers for my mp3player. They all rule.

I use Beyer Dynamics DT231.

They're pretty lightweight and fit neatly in my laptop backpack.

However, I'd like to try out some noise-cancellation headphones. It's sometimes very hard to concentrate making music on the commute - I hate noisy trains and kids who use their mobile phones as ghettoblasters!

two different AKG headphones here (K141 Studio because it's got great sound _and_ bass, K270 for complete linear monitoring work) and a pair of Sennheiser in-ear plugs for mobile stuff. Rocks, too.

HD570. Still comfy, but the last 9 years it's been getting one hell of a beating.

Sennheiser HD555 for movies, games & multimedia.


Grado SR-80 for music.

I have an AKG 240, too. Very good sound, comfortable and durable (dropped it dozens of times, I'm clumsy)

Also a good one: Beyerdynamic dt770

I don't have any headphones, just earplugs.

I use cheap Chinese earplugs I bought off of ebay for 5 bucks :-)

AKG k240 (careful: 600 ohm, you need an amp with enough output)
AKG k280 parabolic for monitoring stuff - really great, but afaik they are not being manufactured anymore.

My favorites are the old Sony MDR-605 LP


Introduced around 2002, discontinued around 2005. However, if you go to yer Saturn or Mediamarkt Shoppe and ask nicely, they can order them for at most 65 EUR.

Good things are:

- extremely comfortable to wear! i usually don't take them off for weeks! barely possible to notice them sitting on your head.
- high annoyance factor for people around you! they actually get to hear more than you do... but you actually get the best parts of the sound, and others get to eat the mud. :D
- BASS. really. BASS. not the bass that makes your ears bleed, but beautiful, deep bass being conducted mostly through your skull...
- if worn correctly, extremely natural, non-fatiguing sound.
- cable seems to be undestroyable, at least not in daily five-year normal and mildly evil use.
- somewhat high efficiency, perhaps higher than most 40mm one would run into...
- cheap.

The annoyances are:
- the system radiates high frequencies from a single tiny spot! given the flexibility of placement of the headphones (up to a couple cm in each direction due to cutouts for ears behind), the positioning extremely affects the sound and has to be precise up to couple of millimeters. Hit the sweet spot and be happy. Or don't and listen to total mud...
- not wearable at a demoparty or other loud locations.
- better not immerse in water...
- discontinued, duh.

btw, i measured them, and they seem to be somewhat linear-ish and resonance-free in the range of up to a couple of KHz... in high frequencies, measurements turned out to be too hard: the mic placement and small dimension is the problem.

I remember also being somewhat impressed by AKGs in the price range >250 EUR... other headphones under 200 EUR i had experienced were all worse than these Sony... however, i'm not sure i actually listened to some of those suggested in this thread.
