it was assembly 2001. during the party we had given out something like 30 litres of potemkin
on sunday i woke up from the cliffs after passing out in front of the fire. my leg was broken since i fell during the night, it was painful to walk. also, the clock was somethin like noon, so it was totally too late for me to see the democompo, which i wanted to see becouse dose2 was there.
anyway, i painfully walked to the hartwall arena, and when i'm getting close to the door, some guy who's having the worst hangover of his life asks i have anything to drink for him.
i answer, i don't have anything with me but i think there are still some mfx-potemkin bottles at the cliffs.
the guy answers, "oh, is it that horrible shit that made me puke 4 times last night?"

moments like that make all the time wasted on demoscene worthwhile.

oh, and ofcourse aggressive 95. it was first time i met the mfx-guys. it was the first time VLP had some entries in compos that actually won some prizes, hitchy hit had made some kewl gfx and grave had a fucking great tune there. it's also the first party where i drank Karhu. also playing sidtunes and dancing to them through the night was cool.

OK, where to start

- seeing Chicken Dance on the big screen and people clapping on MS98 was really cool

- getting the 3rd price for that was very cool although some guy (i don't who it was) put the mike in his underpants right before that... Steeler wasn't very pleased with that, too ;)

- watching AtariST demos stoned was a very weird experience, all that scrollers...

- winning demo compo at 0a000h surely rocked like hell. Especially as it was a pain in the ass to complete the demo. Coding and modeling all day long while having slept for about 1 hour because of the really high noise level. but we managed to finish it and even managed to bugfix it while the compo. Hey Styx, thanx again for your fairness.

- Being asked "you're already that old" by Styx was a really cool experience :)

So, i guess i forgot most of the cool experiences, anyway...
Oh, ok, forgot:

Entering the main hall at MS98 was a very cool experience, as it was our first real demoparty we visited. All those people, a big hall full of equipment and geeks...
Smoking some weed with Stil/TPB at VIP 4 was really cool :))

NAID 95 was pretty nice. But I never got to be in another party. I wanted to go to Assembly 01 and even Mekka&Symposium01 but failed LOL.... Oh well!!!!!!

But NAID 95 was a cool party. It probably set the standard for BIG SCREEN, RAVE during the night, sleeping everywhere, 24/H Cafeterias, DOOM / QUAKE network ... It was pretty big.

TP3: our first demo release, overall demo sucked but the funky bird got quite a nice reaction form the public - went to Henring by train, we watched demos on the way back (power supplies in Danish trains rule!)

SIH95: played MtG with Lizardking, released a bunch of old sources glued together and called "Somewhere in Duckland", one part of the demo displayed "... at Bizarre '94" ;-)

TP4: lent Santa/TRSI my Assembly CD, never got it back although twice a year he mails me to tell me he will send it ;-) Went to TP4 in a minivan with 8 or so cool guys, they had arranged for quite a supply of weed to get through the party days - the last joint was already gone when we crossed the Danish border heading to the party place...

Heh, great thread. Mine would be the Quartz Summer Conference in England in '92. One of the first multi-day parties ever held in England (iirc). The first night it was pretty obvious that sleeping in the main hall was only possible if you punctured your eardrums.. so I headed outside and attempted to sleep in the light rain that was falling. I think I gave up after an hour or so and went back to the hall and spent the night chatting to many many drunken friends I met for the first time

The second night there were a lot more people in need of sleep (many like me had been awake over 24hrs), but the volume in the main hall was still too loud.. so a bunch of us headed outside again. With a few guys from my group, and a bunch of Irish guys we wandered into a farmers barn. It was dry and full of hay - 'ideal' sleeping conditions! However being woken at 6am by a bunch of angry looking sheep wondering why there are a bunch of scruffy looking sceners asleep in their food - well, its something I will never forget.

QSC wasnt the most 'productive' party I ever went to, but I remember it for the good times and laugh out loud events :)

hmmh. here are some things which are quite memorable to me... nothing really special, tho...

* scenario 96:

me, 216, manticore and sorbus are driving towards the partyplace. Sorbus is behind the wheel. We turn to the parkinglot (quite fast). Someone just barely manages to jump away from the car. Everyone's head turns: "was that kraku....", "nah, couldn't be.." We get in to the partyplace and set up our hardware. Moment's later kraku/mass shows up all excited and distraught "some assholes just tried to run me over outside"...

* Skenery'96

The police. All of them (literally). Haven't seen so many cops at a party before or ever since.

* Juhla IVB:

Having a beer, Chillin' out, watching the comet...

* The Party '97:

A geometric problem solved in the most extreme fashion thus leading to the appearance of several security guys and members of the danish fire department.

* Plutonium 2000:

Rainmaker's dad's brand new BMW and all the evil things done to it.

* The Party 2001:

The finnish campfire and everything that happened there. Synteesi getting obscenely drunk and almost ending up in a hospital, dead meat doing his thing, local 'toyota corolla' teens visiting etc.

* Lobotomia 2002

the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - vibe at 05:00 on sunday morning with synteesi, droid and a big bunch of other people.

* mekka/symposium 2002:

Being outside boozing on friday evening and thinking "if something cool won't happen in the next 10 minutes, i'm going to sleep" and then getting a phonecall from kb saying "mfx guys, get on stage"... It was bloody hilarious:).. Too bad we were only left with one crate of beer:D

Recently done a demoshow (FLaGPoLe), was a really cool event.
Even though there was a seriuos problem which we encountered after the first 3 demos, basically someone put a chair on one of the audio cables, and it went broke, and the whole left channel was only crackling.
It took Noel around an hour to fix it, which we spent with a timewaster that's getting usual on hungarian parties, folding paper planes, and throwing them :)
Oh and looping Rammstein songs for an hour to check whether the cable's working or not is also great fun.
As well as using Wordpad to write realtime bullshit on the bigscreen (Tomcat changing the font size to big and continuing writing with small :), or using Paint to draw funny pictures about Charlie :)

And after all that, seeing stuff like State of the Art, Little Nell, Planet Potion(!), Sinum or VIP2.

ROX!

I can't remeber exactly, but probably it was mekka 1997 when, after the introcompo (democompo maybe...) someone said "I you want to see a spectacular effect, go outside and watch the hale-bopp comet in the sky".

It was an extremely nice show...

This reminds me ReAct2002. The organizers did the same thing to present which demo is shown by whom!!!

The best time at ReAct2002 was at the last day. Because most sceners had left the place at the previous day, we were preety few and quiet with few PCs open. And we watched all together the wild demos in the morning at that day and it was like a family atmosphere because we are really few and all gathered together, watching wild demos with inside jokes, like Optimus - meddle or I wanna be a demoscener. It was a real nice way to end up the party!

this years assembly was nice. chatting with people,
and going to bar, drinking with some sceners and
group members. moment of horror occured when
astute/flo and aropupu started chewing and licking
my bare leg at boozembly and one unmentioned
idiot pouring beer on me and not helping :D

Anyone 'landlocked' on the North or South American continent - get your ass to a party!

After I've been to more parties I'll have more memories, right now of course I'd just be relating a partyreport of BP03...
A picture is worth a thousand words... or something:

http://panic.joroinen.fi/~pk/breakpoint03/img_0391.jpg

From breakpoint'03, scene.org awards gala, after Variform won the best demo prize and ppl stated raving on the stage...

Also the whole party was one of the best parties ever...

Now, Breakpoint 2004 was my first party abroad, and that's why it was very exciting, and overall best party I've been so far. Rushing there with 50+ (60?) other finns and showing that "here comes Finland, the land of sceners" :) is a funny fact. And BP is the only place where you can meet such a lot of sceners. Too bad I couldn't make any serious production because of technical problems. (damn i suck in english)

Stream 2003 was fucking cool party as well, the first "scene-only" party i visited. Finnish summer with Lidl-beer, small campfire near lake, excellent weather, polices, etc :). I met many sceners there. And the fact that I won the intro competition made me think that "some sceners may like my stuff" etc. Just excellent.

Just a nuance about BP04.
Watching the Amiga4K compo is always cool.
Watching the Amiga4K compo with Slummy and Loaderror tho... well THAT's awesome :D
