Someone on a mailing list I'm on found this among his collected pieces of trash. What does it do? Is it good for anything?

It is a monitor switchbox so you can attach a 15 kHz RGB monitor and an SM124 or VGA compatible screen at the same time, there should be a black switch to toggle between em...

RAS ATARI !!!

@skrebbel I don't think so, it just offers 3 different output choices

1) RGB for low and medium resolution (15 KHz screen required)
2) monochrome VGA (something below 35 KHz)
3) Mono Audio Cinch
4) possibly FBAS via Cinch

The switch on the back toggles the monochrome detect and some other lines which will cause the ST to reboot when activated.

However this device doesn't contain a scandoubler, so it cannot replace havoc's odd video recorder :)

Note that I successfully recorded a STe output using a recent consumer (Pioneer) video DVD recorder. It has a SCART input, handles 15kHz RGB even non-interlaced (since the Atari outputs what we can call 288p, not 576i), converts everything to standard PAL (keeping the 50fps) and can even be used as a converter : it outputs RGB, composite video, S-video and component video. In my case I used it to record the STe output on a broadcast VCR using YPbPr (component) outputs of the DVD recorder.
This recorder costed around 500€ at the time we bought it because it has a hard drive, but it's still a lot cheaper than standard professionnal converters (around 4000€ for non-HD ones).
Rockst, well for PAL stuff you can get a DV-bridge for 200 euros.
