Uber scene database, opinions wanted
category: general [glöplog]
dip: Not yet... expect that to arrive by the end of this week.
trace: Erk - not sure if this is related to the problem you're seeing (that page looks OK here) but demozoo-encore.torchboxapps.com URLs should be hidden behind a proxy... don't suppose you remember how you got there? :-) (Probably not too important either way... that proxy stuff was an "oh crap my 128Mb virtual server can't even cope with one person browsing the site, better bung it on a work server and try to get permission later" party hack at 3am)

The thing is that, I tried to add Square, but kind of got it done as it Square was done by Statix, which isn't 100% true, so I was looking if there was a way to change the group, but I just got a bit frustrated as a user and closed the site.
I though it was more like a wikipedia which anyone can change the data.

aah, I'm with you now... yep, it looks like the 'Add Production' link (combined with the lack of place to enter individual credits) is confusing people into thinking that it's meant to associate people with productions. I'll do something about that then (like, actually finishing the credits feature)...
whatever has been said throughout the last three pages continuing after the initial post - i didn't read it, i'm more than glad in case i unknowingly repeat someone elses opinion. =)
all i have to say i like the idea. that's actually the part of csdb that would be nice to have included into pouet, mainly speaking of single contributor/user-pages instead of just the account data, telling what url and icq number the certain person has. that way you get a better picture of what people have been involved in, just in case you missed someone's glory years and only know him as overweight boozing maniac from parties.

exactly!
Stop building databases and make fn demos ok?
ok.
w00t, im in a group called ++ apparently XD
I did not read through all the text, so I dont know whether this has been already mentioned. But exotica has a welath of informtion on groups and members. It would be cool if this was accessible in a proper database and extended upon.
Good idea, that should enable us to finally link people to releases, which is the only feature I miss on Pouet really.
This is what I am referring to:

Lando: Awesome! Can't believe I didn't know about that site before... (and this is clearly why we need a central site to make this kind of stuff more findable.) That's definitely going high up on the list of sites to grab from...
Maali: You should totally hook up with those other guys in ++ and start a fucktro war against --. (Seriously, that's exactly how it appears in Slengpung too... if it's actually a bogus group then it probably ought to get fixed. Which reminds me, I need to book my ticket for __no_party__ 2008.)

As promised, entering individual prod credits is now working.
Enter demo credits and earn beer!!! \o/

Gasman - you're kidding me; you didn't know about exotica? It's exobuzz's pride and joy! He'll cry tears of hot, salty blood when I tell him ;_;
gasman, I don't know if this is a problem with the database or just the imported data from pouet, but on this entry:
http://demozoo.org/sceners/7769
I'd much rather have no group listed, rather than 'Parapete', since I'm a person, not a group, and I'm not the only person who did work in that demo. I don't know who changed the group name for that prod here on pouet to 'parapete' but it makes little sense to have it that way on your database... I guess there will be a few cases of this happening.

also, anyone adding stuff... beware of moronic nfos where some retard has listed himself twice in the credits under 2 different nicks
how to split users?

this one is mixed up for example, the pc guy is avatar of black maiden, and then there is apparently some zx scene avatar.

plus i just added avatar's 3d credits to hi freaks (http://demozoo.org/productions/15605), yet it is not popping up on his personal page.
dipswitch: it doesn't look like prods people have worked on show up on their personal page yet at all. the only reason avatar has 2 productions listed for him is because he's the "group" responsible for the prod. that's symptomatic of the thing i just mentioned ^
Hey gasman, that credits feature is really cool!
But, if I add a credit on a demo like... trace, design on tokyo.. should I have automatically a new production on my user profile?

gasman: awesome with credits, but it seems that the productions-list on each user always is empty, even if they are credited for some demos.
kusma: hehe..
gasman: also, maybe a little log box on the homepage may be cool (or maybe a dedicated page for it). so you can see who modified what, and in this way you know what's "new" in the site. something like wikipedias change log of pages

gasman: <3 for the quick implementation!
yay! that was fast! :)
parapete: as you wish :-) However, on Demozoo it's legit for an individual to be listed as the overall author for a production (which will become more evident when we start getting music and graphics in there) and I don't think there can be much objection to calling First Offence "a Parapete demo" really. Anyhoo, I've just dropped in a "Credited on..." listing on the scener / group pages, which is probably a neater solution all round.
