It's because ftp.scene.org get's overloaded quite easily (275 simultaneously users afaik). But their mirrors should be more reliable.

always try to replace
ftp.scene.org/pub/url_of_file
by
http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=url_of_file

and choose the nearest mirror

IMHO scene.org is pain in the ass!! >_<

If scene.org is not working, try the following:

Take an address that looks like this:
ftp://ftp.scene.org/pub/parties/2001/theparty01/demo/medium.zip

...and change the bolded parts, and remove the italicized parts so it looks like this:
http://ftp.sunet.se/pub/demos/scene.org/parties/2001/theparty01/demo/medium.zip

Then try it again. I think sunet's max users is near 1000, and they have good speed. It just takes a while to connect sometimes.
I do this beacuse it's easy to remember the changes to make to the address.

what also would be nice, would be if people used the http-url from www.scene.org when they added the prod, in stead of the ftp.scene.org one. then this would (almost :) never be a problem.

yah, there's also a mirror na toya <polish demoscene ftp scene server>, it's at ftp://toya.scene.pl/pub/scena/parties . there are parties mirrored there til the end of year 2000. and it's usually not full, so if you need something, just head there. :)

but the .pl servers normally don't give more than 5-10kb/s

or just http://www.scene.org/pub/.../whatever.zip
works all the time, fast and seem to not have any limits..

scene.org sucks anyways. why would anyone want to go there to leech stuff? ;)
use www.scene.org -> browse the archive to find your file and the mirrors to download. i keep telling people to not put links pointing directly to the ftp anymore (point to the file on www instead) to try to free up the 275 logged in users but they dont listen..

but to answer the question: all files that were on the ftp can be searched and found on https://files.scene.org/

Scene.org should be working fine right now.
