Converting .it file to pre-2.14

Anyone know how to do this? Either I'm not doing it properly (using chibitracker clone), or there's a bug in minifmod (it2xm). Either way, I'm at a roadblock. I've used both before, but never encountered a problem until now.

are there some sort of .it pattern cleanup tools that make sure the resultant .xm doesnt cause crashes on a empty row?
just use impulse tracker and save it in 2.xx format. should work okay in dosbox.
still crashes on an empty row. it makes no sense..
