i read an article claiming they'll have this in the stores by the end of 08 for around $400 btw... hmm
Build a good tablet into that and woopee :)
Though I can't imagine typing with no tactile feedback at all.

yeh, virtualization sucks hard. though i guess they'll provide us with nice "tap tap" sound samples for the V-Kb, like the dumb diskdrive sound simulation in WinUAE. :)
anyway this thing's supposed to have good resolution so I suppose it'll ship with some kind of Pen option. so it can be used as a Wacom Cintiq screen, I guess. only with the added Muti-Touch feature that allows those nice finger manipulation combos in the vid (which I don't think the Cintiq has)

chock : thanks for that, no it's set to 8 way rotaty, remember using the test/diag program for it ages ago,it set to 8 way.just i found the console adaptors react differently. might be the conversion hardware or software wise. dunno.
as for the 8 way thing, its pretty hard to explain unless you've played the original factory ikari warriors/guruella war/time soldiers by snk in the arcade. think of it like a normal joystick BUT with the ability to twist it like you would a bottle top, so the directional thing moves the character, but if u twist the joystick while moving the aiming goes at 45 degrees/90 etc. in ways a bit like the game cannon fodder but not.
the original SNK ones are LS-30's although looking into it they do one called
happ's rotary joystick. that do the trick, it's only specialist games i miss that on , but if that other joystick combines both things, then i'm a happy chappy. I might contact xarcade to see what they are saying about converting it.

I want a model M, with the poin-ted stick controller (because they rule) without a touchpad (because they SUCK) and without key caps; 104 or 105 key model, none of this 101 key US crap where it's missing the key next to the Z and the key cutting into the enter key. As in: the picture earlier posted by src == CRAP KEYBOARD, it's missing keys. I also want it to have PS2, XT/AT, Amiga, and USB keyboard adapters. It won't happen, so I'll deal with the multitude of keyboards I've managed to accidentally collect.
I will say that some of the macally keyboards are just absolute CRAP in that they RARELY keep up with my typing speed, and they OFTEN drop alt, control, and shift. Which is where I don't use that one much, instead, I'll grab another and put it in the usb slot instead.
And I need to get my Hanaho joystick here from the states; and I need another X-Arcade; I sold mine for a laptop when I went to the UK cuz I needed a laptop for work more than I needed an X-Arcade in storage.

I <3 my keytronic. It's the second one in a row I've got too. The last one I had I unfortunately killed with either tea or coke, can't remember which.
Cintiq has only pen input using the traditional electromagnetic approach from Wacom tablets. The advantage is pressure/tilt sensitivity, buttons on the pen and very high resolution. I don't think the multi touch screen would have that without a built-in tablet.
A combination monitor/tablet/multi-touch screen would be sooooo neat though.

the decent wacom tablets aren't cheap though are they? I used a quantel art comp years ago for an hour or 2, very nice, but well you can do the same these days with a pc/mac + a decent tablet.
suprised no company has made a keyboard where you can replace the start key with a tux key
heres some more, but I don't own em.

G-Tech Fabric Keyboard
This weekend i twice almost bought a new keyboard :) this tread is quite hasardous.
First the ibm with trackpoint, but couldnt find one with the standard querty layout, there was a few french canadian versions but again the \| key is where i press enter.
Then i almost bought the usb mac keyboard. had a play with it at the store and really like it, but then decided on hte wireless version. Came home to order it online and started wondering whether it is poissible to use it with a pc since it uses some form of encryption. Doesnt seem to be anything custom but i am somewhat interested in having a play with it first. Switching the functionality of f13-15 keys doesnt seem to be an issue.
Ahh decisions. Also tried attaching a wireless circuit to a laptop keyboard but that stopped really fast when i realised that the extra media buttons on the laytek really ruined things for me and figuring out the pinout on the laptop keyboard seems a haslle since i would have to rip all the keys off to get to the contacts. The idea really intrigues me though, a really thin keyboard with capacitors in place of batteries would be pretty cool. (a few reasons to use capacitors, search about for it, its a good mouse mod at least and if you are insane or an insomniac you can pack them in interesting places easier also mroe stock shapes than nimh)
They keyboards with 0 tactile feedback are pretty nasty to use just pretend type on the desk, its gross.
Ahh unsomnia it will make you do funny things.

Mac Keyboards work fine on a PC ... except for the fact that some key combinations are changed (i.e. for the @) ... once you get used to that (which shouldn't be impossible) you'll have a sexy but terrible (imho) keyboard.
I love my Model M (and my Black/Silver HP Keyboard at work) :)

Wait.
Are you seriously thinking that the location of the @ depends on the computer manufacturer?
You're NOT serious.
Look, in France (and parts of Belgium and parts of Switzerland) they use shift to hit numbers. That's NOT because Apple or Microsoft or Atari or Commodore decided that. It's because that's the way that the keyboard is laid out for the majority of that nation's typists. It's what they prefer, apparently.
English speaking countries generally use a QWERTY layout; the alternate is the dvorak keyboard (which is faster for input if you can get used to it.) QWERTY is NOT designed for speed, it was designed to stop keys from sticking together when typing on a manual typewriter. (If you never have - and I would BET a lot of you haven't even seen one - well, it was always fun to press a whole bunch of keys and have them jam together, then you'd have a whole bunch of stuck keys and you'd have to unstick them. And they made neat patterns. And it would piss Miss Pinaire off. Mind you those were electric in her class... not manual... anyway I flunked typing. 80+wpm now. In your face, Miss Pinaire.) German keyboards are (for all keyboards I have used in Germany) QWERTZ; There are AZERTY and so on; and then there's the French keyboard which I always come back to because it's so freaking different that I simply cannot use it without complaining a LOT. (For results, see my typing in an issue of Pain where I was using Unlock's keyboard.)
Now if Windows is so fscking stupid that it loads something from the keyboard saying what country it is, and changes the keymappings based on they key CAPS...
Look - to change it on osX you go to the little International thing and you switch from US International to Suomi or Deutsch or different hangul inputs. You don't pay attention to keycaps. And I'm SURE Windows used to have an international keyboard support item, you could even switch keymappings with whatever keyset you wanted. I'd switch from US to UK regularly with control-shift. If they took that out - I'm sure they didn't. Go to your International settings and put it back ON and get YOUR keymapping back.
It has NOTHING to do with the keycaps.
If you are saying that this is a problem because when you LOOK at the keycaps they're wrong - well, yes, welcome to my world - Suomi keyboard, UK or US keymapping, keycaps all whacked. And I'll mention the French keyboard one more time because it's just plain WHACKED if you're used to Qwerty. But this should NOT matter to anyone who has learned how to type.
If you're still hunting/pecking: LEARN TO TOUCH TYPE. Otherwise you're gonna be SCREWED when you start using other keyboards from other countries. (Not to mention the 'no keycaps' models coming out these days.) I understand Dvorak is NOT that hard to learn, and it's quite a bit faster. Go with that. Hell there are even single left and right handed versions, so you can type while browsing the random image thread.

I'm not ... at least not generally (since some manufacturers place the #-Key differently) ... I'm aware of the QWERTZ, QWERTY and AZERTY issue, might be that the Mac Keyboard we have a work has a foreign layout and windows detected it wrong ... quite frankly, I've never seriously worked on a Mac, neither did I ever have a Mac keyboard hooked up to my PC.

wtf?
scenerhub.pl I feel your pain, russian and english here, thats why i gave up on keymarkings ages ago(the reason my keyboard is painted black) i was learning to type in russian and labled all my keys. It didnt do a thing, very painful very frustrating, cluttered and unproductive. Then after painting it blank, gave russian a go again and was surprised at how much easier it was, have the layout picture on your screen and just reference that so that you dont trick yourself into looking at the keyboard, always end up doing it by orientation. The crappy keayboards are find are the ones that are not localised only by key caps but also the actual layout, a few french keyboards have a key after the shift and en extra key before the enter. Thats what stuffs me up.
Thats steampunk model m is the coolest mod around the complex structure of the keys really ads to the steampunk feel of the whole thing.
I am aware of the differences in mac layout, the f13, 14,15,16, my mac designer friend's macs are awesome areguments revolve entierely around the f13 and photoshop combination(apperantly its leet)
My attraction to the mac keyboard is based on the fact that there is no surround around the keys also i noticed the 4 extra keys above the numpad and the extra keys where the + is, this intrigues me and makes me happy, i love the idea of extra function keys that are part of the normal key set rather than tacked on rubber things along the top.

nitro: That's the coolest typewriter ever.
