Pierre Bourdieu was an acclaimed French sociologist:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bourdieu

There is an interesting point in seeing a right extremist like sarkozy, pretending to represent a fatherly force, facing segolene , always talking about mothership. Bourdieu, some years before, found in his book "On male domination", about relations between boys and girls, that men are more or less "bound to try to control or kill women", sometimes against their own will (the men's will I mean, the dominating is dominated by its own domination). He actually demonstrated (sociology is a science, it demonstates, using scientific tools.) That in a governement, it is unsaid but true to say that school, health, are the feminine side of the society, and police and army and economy the male side, what the father does. And Bourdieu demonstrated that right winged parties and neo liberalism was in fact a male complex, trying to "kill the feminine side of the society", by removing money from school and health and building prison instead, like sarkozy did.
This is a great discovery, I think it is quite clear. this is a nice example of deconstructivism. A society need its feminine side.

You should also look at the film of Pierre Carles
"La sociologie est un sport de combat" about Bourdieu and his work. Yes, Pierre carles is some kind of french Michael moore, but once again, french people know about Mickael Moore, and blame USA, but they don't know Pierre Carles....

krabob, i'm totally against bringing this gender/psychology shit into politics. it was partly what destroyed the left movement in the 60s/70s. i don't agree with franz pfemfert completely when he said in his polemics against otto rühle that psychology is a bourgeois science, but for sure it's absolutely counterproductive in the struggle. all respect for pierre bourdieu, but explaining social shortage with a fight between "feminine" and "masculine" side of politics is bringing you nowhere. point is, both sides (conservatives vs. social-reformists) are on the side of the finance capital. but in case of the conservative side, reactionary traditions are added. so, the conservative side is for sure more dangerous.

i'm not french, but i hope that sego makes it. it would be just a small step, but a step in the right direction, agaiinst the whole drift to the right which is going on right now in europe. and people who say "oh, come on, you fucking hippies, it's not the 70s, a right drift is fresh air!" - just think for a moment about what kind of world you want to live in. if it's a world ruled by capital, underminded by a thin garment of rotten "traditionalism" - well, our ways part then.

krabob i'm personally not at ease with sarkozy's character but all your TSS (tout sauf sarko) propaganda are based on a few facts that i was already aware of... You should try 'investigate' also around marie-ségolene's character and story, you would be quite surprised too. If you invoke Bourdieu, then listen to what he said about her some years ago: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgnbi_gauchedroite, that's quite 'funny'.

If i was about to caricature like you, i would say that if sarko's character is dangerous then sego's economic and scientific program is far more dangerous! so...

i think i'll vote bayrou again :D

really, i agree with krabob...of course Segolene should win, if only to send a token message to the corporate/globalist vultures lined-up behind Sarkozy that the public still values humanity...social justice...workers rights.. national sovereignty, and all that good stuff. but it wont happen.

they will enjoy the social change implimented by a weathy elite-minded man who grew-up in a castle and looks down on "his people" as something he scraped from the sole of his shoe. the French people VOTE for their own downfall. lol, vive la revolution! lol, democracy.

France is a evil country that have developed A-bombs and H-bombs, for what purpose i must ask? Congratulations to France for making the world a safer place by creating weapons of destruction and fear.

Especially relevant since history has shown things were rosy rosy before France had the nuclear bomb. Yeah right.

France have got a strong presidential system since WWII and the arrival of the paternalistic savior de Gaulle (and he was actually quite needed ;)) but nowadays we are still electing a 'providential' man or woman and that can't fit the modern political context (post-war era has been over for a long time, war is economic, and some national powers have drift to Europa - and that's not compulsorily bad) and that can't fit the modern view of democracy : we want more political choice, more fairness, less centralized power : a parliamentary system with more proportional representation. And that way we would see more women canvass for highest positions like in most other european countries without the need to be a marie-segolene-royal the spiritual daughter of françois mitterrand :(

> i'm totally against bringing this gender/psychology shit into politics.

Well, I deeply agree with you on that one, Dip. :) Except that this gender analysis has been around for some time in France. It's a soft, invasive, almost subliminal trend. Males are bad. Females are good. And, I'm sorry to say : Krabob is a fucking good example of this massive brain-washing.

dipswitch: The world does want a "breath of fresh air", and they think that means they want a "shift to the right". What they really want is a shift towards libertarianism, but that's too hard for most people to understand, now that the whole left-right rhetoric has become stupid nonsense.
