Foreign quotes translated roughly into English

category: general [glöplog]

It's actually a bit irrelevant with demoscene and you might eat me all but I don't care because I am in a weird state again today and I am writting silly unrealistic and weird stuff...

...but since the demoscene is now gathered all together and diferrent cultures from diferrent countries are gathered too, I was wondering for one thing. How would foreign famous quotes sound when translated roughly into English. Do you remember when I was writting about the vagina's or about other roughly translated quotes in English? Wouldn't they sound funny? I just won't to see how quotes from other countries I don't personally know sound like. Write only the english lame translation and not necessary the original and I would love to guess what could this possibly mean. Would be fun!

The greek ones I have hear are:

-Fuck my horn.
-Are you working me?
-You changed my lights
-Welcome my eyes the two

-Better five and to hand than ten and waiting
-Better donkey-bonding than donkey-searching
-It says!
-I've played them!
-I made her lottery!

Write some quotes of your country/culture in raw English. I would love to see, laugh and try to guess in my mind what they could possibly mean. Would be interesting for me and great fun..

I guess one common Finnish saying is 'eipä suotta' which could be roughly translated 'not without the swamp.'

The Hungarian language is said to be very rich in such sayings, let's see some.

- Won't let 48 go
means: Won't let his opinion be changed even slightly, due to his short-sightedness. It was said first when some radical Hungarian politicians were rigorously trying to force the demands of the lost 1848 revolution against the Austrian Empire, when the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy was founded in 1867.

- Tomorrow, on little Tuesday
means: never

- You're socks brainwise
means: you're stupid. How it comes to compare someone's intelligence to socks, is beyond me.

- Ties the dog to the pale
means: Rigorously keeps his opinion.

- Releases the wheel
means: Escapes from danger

- Chews his ear
means: Tries to turn someone to his own opinion by constantly whispering about it.

There's a lot more. A 800 pages thick book was published in the eighties, with explanations for the origins of most Hungarian sayings. The book was titled 'What tree grows it?', which means something like "What is this, where's it came from?"

"haista vittu" -> "smell cunt"
(means pretty much the same as "fuck you")

- after the rain on thursday (meaning "never")
- from where the ears (or legs) grow ("where smth comes from")
- promising to show someone Kuz'ka's mother (Kuz'ka being a plain version of Kus'ma, an old russian name); promising to show someone where lobsters spend the winter (meaning "threaten someone")
- until lobster on the hill whistles ("in a really long time, or never")
- put it in a long box ("postpone something")
- wait until the roasted cock pecks someone ("not doing smth important until last minute")
- to drive off one's reels; to let the dogs out ("lose temper")
- no flies fucked each other on this ("it's brand new")
- like a cat's balls ("clean and shiny")

Hey! These rules, thanx! Post more from other countries/cultures too!!! I will post my own explanations now..

-Fuck my horn/madness/whore
Just an alternative to Damn, Shit, Fuck ;)

-Are you working me?
Are you kidding me?

-You changed my lights
The chick to her boyfriend, after a good fuck :)

-It says!
Someone tells me a cool idea and I say to him "Hey man! It says!!!"

-I have played them!
-I have lost the ball!

I am confused by what happened in here..

-The University labs are at Devil's mother.

He means they are very far..

-I don't know my blindness.
I am going to the math exams without having studied well. I see the questions of the test and say "Oh fuck! I don't know my blindness"

-I don't chew.

He has guts..

-I made them salad - I made them sea.
What happened at the end of my exams ;)

-We became robes - Robe unbuttoned - Straight you robe!
What happens to me every day. I become ashamed of myself by what I write here in Pouet ;)

-I take them to the skull.
He got too angry!

-Whatever you remember you are glad.
I was on the irc and wrote uncomprehensible stuff and that's what another scener told me :)

-I drank him.
This is my favorite cause my brother says it so funny and my big brother is angry about that. I go to see the exams and I see I have got a bad note while waiting to pass and I said "Ohh fuck! I have drank him!!!". Or my brother plays a game and fucks completelly the enemy on the game and he says "Hehehe,. he drank him! :)". It comes from hardcore sexual meaning ;)

-Don't confuse the dick with the brush.
This is another funny thing for me. It has meaning in greek because it rhymes 'Min berdeveis tin putsa me tin vurtsa'. It is when you try to compare a good thing with a deadly bad thing..

-He farted me.
He ignored me

-It's deaf.
I can't beleive it (Can't be heared ;)

-With this side to sleep.
I say I wanna go to Erasmus..
And my parents answer 'with this side to sleep'

-Like the snooooows!
When someone is too late (Like I am when before a meeting with a friend, I bumb into an Icafe ;)

-They took the three.
What I get from my exams. The three, meaning the 2 testicles and the 1 dick, equals 3! Similar to 'I drank him'. Btw,. I use to get many 3/10 at my exams and get cut off ;P

- you can trim a wooden stake on his head ("he's stubborn as fuck")
- to load someone ("make someone worry, give out lots of useless information, or just try to fool someone")
- silent like a guerilla ("someone who don't squeal, never gives out his friends to the police, etc", after the russian guerilla, or 'partizan' troops, that were notorious among nazi soldiers for their resistance and courage)
- dripping like a piggy (said when someone has just a little cut but a lot of bleeding all of a sudden)
- there's no truth in your legs (usually said after inviting a visitor from afar to sit down)

Don't German people say something like 'fuck yourself in the knee' when meaning 'fuck you'? I think it was something like 'Fich dich im Knie' in German.

Has he knees crashed perhaps? By himself or another person. The meaning of "fuck you" doesn't necessary means for me that I should fuck myself, but it is generally a curse saying that something bad will fuck up my life. It's passive voice in gramar..

hey optimus.. does "anexis tes portes nestrapsos" mean "open the doors I need to throw up" in greek? if so it's what I'll scream next time I go to a greek bar.. if I ever go..
added on the 2003-05-27 00:04:58 by violator violator
It's weird, the way you write it..
could be "anixe tis portes na diavo" which I have heard before and means "open the doors to pass through" (and I don't think they will say it in a greek bar ;), but could be also something that I haven't heard, like "anixe tis ports na astrapso" which means "open the doors to flash" or something..

Where have you heard that?
added on the 2003-05-27 08:19:31 by Optimus Optimus
a friend of mine taught me that.. I need to know what "open the door I need to throw up" is in greek.. just for fun...
added on the 2003-05-28 13:39:02 by violator violator
Then it is, "anixe tes portes na xeraso" but I don't remember to have heard this as a quote? Who wouldn't to throw up after someone else opens the door to his way afteralls?
