Basically, more than a "Go to first page", the logical thing would be, clicking on the topic title would take you to the first page, and it should have a link (maybe a » sign) to take you to the last page.

That'd make it one click easier for those who actually want to start reading a thread :)

I like the current system where you end up at the last page. However, the thread view needs first and last buttons.

You don't visit pouet often enough if you don't land on the first page the first time you start reading a thread.

rmeht: an experienced poueter with a decent connection, yes. An experienced poueter living in a third world country with a sucky and expensive 512kbps DSL wouldn't want 100 seal with buckets images loaded all at once.

(I have it set at 50 anyway, but still...)

jcl: if you're going to read an entire thread, they'll be loaded in any case. would be cool, in fact, to have a "switch off the [img] tag" option somewhere. it's even usefull at work when you won't your boss see the crappy imagery on pouet ;)

rmeht: If you're using Opera, it's right above the page. (Show images, No images or Cached images) Actually useful.

rmeht: just use lynx, your boss won't even notice you're surfing the web :-)

it'd take less php code than the number of characters needed to write a bbcode reply to a seal with bucket post :)

ok, the "go to page" combo box requires one more click but seriously it takes a fraction of second to select '1' in the drop down and click submit. Even in the "Fix me beautiful" thread.

Even faster than clicking and pointing: click on the "go to page" text, tab, page up, tab , enter.

Jcl: Sure. To avoid the need to load the last page would require to have a link to the first page in the list of the BBS threads. This way one could either go to the first or to the last past.

To keep the layout, I guess the last page link should be on the number stating the number of replies, and the first page link on the title of the thread. That'd be different from the current behavior but it makes more sense than the other way around.
