Ripping, cheating and re-releasing at Breakpoint and how we are going to deal with it

category: general [glöplog]
sungam: I thought demoscene was about fun and cool competitions, not about stealing.

and yes, I am probably the bad guy here, sure :)

Other parties are a bit harsh, as for Breakpoint, it's up to the compo orgas to decide...

Yeah, not a very good idea that. AEG behaved really cooperatively when contacted on the matter. And Smash Designs has lots of members who stick to rules and don't cheat. We'll ban individuals from submitting prods.

scamp: yes it's a bit harsh, but it would be a suggestion for people who actually stole from a party and would not wish to cooperate later on, unlike AEG :)

Solution: Ban Fzool and Sonic from future Breakpoint competitions, make AEG return the prize (which he already promised to do).
index2.html war gestern.

I don't know why that song was released but I guess it was done in good faith to support Breakpoint's weak c64 scene. The only problem was that it ranked among the top 3 and AEG was collecting the prize instead of saying "it was handed in to support the scene, not to win. give the prize to the 4th." Since he forgot to grab the money at first, I guess he was taken by surprise.

Hypothetical question: What would happen if it was a 4k? There would've been a c64 4k compo and the not so bad 4k by radwar would've ranked 1st instead of a weak 5ths place in the demo compo. (read: weak c64 scene at Breakpoint)

Calm down and try to be more objective. On a side note: No Copy
is still on the breakpoint ftp and it was handed in after it was released and is pure advertisment for the commercial book - I don't think there was no intention to support the demoscene (or a sub scene of it) at all.

Other parties should also refuse any entry from those groups as well in the meantime.
OMG, what if I've cheated at the fun compo to win it? Ban of all ISO and JML members from any competitions? That's nearly half of the scene...
damn, preview for the win: No Copy
Scamp I'm not sure banning someone from entering something is a perfect solution - they can always have stuff released under a groupmates name for example

madenmann: You are talking rubbish. How is "not attending Breakpoint and making someone else hand in an old c64 tune to a multi-platform music compo" supporting the "weak" c64 scene? That's just bullshit.

As is the rest of your post. Go eat some bananas.

BoyC and where is the better solution? ;)

boyc: I doubt a perfect solution to the problem exists. We are open for suggestions. Banning also is more of a penalty than a solution.

What we'll also need to improve on is getting the message out to visitors that they should report cheating during the party - it's much easier to handle such cases then. There is no better penalty than a few hundred sceners pointing their fingers at you, calling you a lamer :)

Gargay: maybe it's a way to find some new sponsors for breakpoint...

... in the rope industry ;)

Gargaj: and sorry for the typo. time for bed

@scamp: and while you are reworking the results-file, could you please mention that there's been a fast-intro compo. it surely was a load of work to do and made us miss certain compos while we were working on it. thx in advance

Yeah. Just prevent Timbaland from coming to the Breakpoint. He's a muthafuckin thief, muthafucka.

Same for Chuck Norris for pretending being a tough guy and David Hasselhof for pretending cars can talk and fly. Bullshits!
ALL TRICKSTERS!

(Keops: also ban Horst Tappert/Derrick for pretending being an interesting TV serie for the last 30 years where it's only a sleep-inducing after-lunch program)

It's a way to thin out entries. Saves pre-selection time :D

This brings up another interesting topic:

Is it considered re-releasing if you submit a tune that didn't pass the pre-selection at another party (and hence, wasn't spread or released per se)?
ok cheating and re-releasing has been addressed
what about ripping ?
I think you just singlehandedly killed the c64 scene Scamp ;)

Nutman: Of course not.

okkie: if that's all c64 scene has to offer, it's better off dead :)

It's not, luckily :)
