Hi Sceners!

We are new to scene(okay, we have followed the scene happenings, but we were passive) and demos coding. And we have made our first demo. And now we want to submit it on a party, but we can't go to the paryplace(because we are living in the God damn serbia). So does online submitting exist (in general)? Or what can we do? Any suggestions? If somebody can explain us, in general, how things are going in the demoscene, that would be great. Because now we want to take an active part of scene, but without any advices and suggestions it's very difficult...

It depends on the party. Some just don't accept remote entries at all (like Breakpoint if I am not mistaken), while some others allow them if you find a representative to submit your entry at the party place (Assembly for example)

Numerica even allowed remote entry simply using an ftp submission.

Moreover, if you don't care about prizes, I'm pretty sure most orgs would accept your entry and show it on the big screen even if you don't attend the party.

Best thing is to read the FAQ/compo rules on the party's website.

First,
-> eat carots.
They are full of Vitamin A, and the most common error of young sceners come from a lack of vitamin. Vitamin A takes care of skin and eyes. No one never ever seen a rabbit wearing glasses anyway.

Secondly, think twice before becoming a demomaker... 10 years of demomaking are enough to ruin the life of any promising young computer scientist, leading to alcoolism and depression. But If you are brave enough, you can perform all that in about 5 years !

Thirdly, BASS.

Fourthly, a real scener goes to parties whatever the fiuck prevent it. Don't care of schools, jobs, money. If you got to go, you got to go.

Fifth: WHAT'S THE 23th BIT FOR IN 4 BYTE FLOAT IEEE FORMAT ? You must be able to answer to this immediatly.

prop2k: choose a nice small party, contact organizers a few weeks in advance, place entry online, give them url, expect last place, convince kooi to revive scene strike :)

Nice to see newcomers around Greece! There is actually Pixelshow 2007 in Patra/Greece in 11-13 Mai, which also accept email submissions in case you are not able to come. And if you look around for smaller not so known demoparties, there are several of them which also accept online entries.

What PS said.

In my opinion, the best way to follow the state (what state there is) of the demoscene is DTV and diskmags:

http://www.pouet.net/prodlist.php?type=diskmag
http://demoscene.tv/

other important things: avoid the random* threads on pouet, don't go to parties where booze is outlawed, cancel any of your other hobbies.

Diskmags?

diskmags are sooooooooooo 1989!
Also, mind the Pouet disclaimer:

Quote:
Before you start or reply to a topic within our noble oldskool pouët BBS you should be advised of the following characteristics:
1. The Pouët admins are in no way responsible, or willing to ever be, regarding their users behaviour.
2. Pouët is in fact not a valid representation of the real spirit of the scene. It never claimed to be.
If that's what you were looking for when reading our BBS topics, we strongly suggest you visit a demoparty instead.

The oldskool pouët BBS is mearly a forum for sceners, with obviously too much free time, to release their frustrations and advertise some scene information for salted communitary feedback, as opposed to polluting the prod comments section.

In fact, the oldskool pouët BBS is a snakepit ZOO full of deadly traps and flamebait chocolure for all sorts of careless sceners. So enter at your own risk, try not to feel easily insulted and remember: please don't feed the trolls.
If you're a newbie to the scene or a missplaced outcast scene legend about to make the mistake of attempting civilized conversation within our halls, please forgive our users for their careless idiocy, mindless absurd behaviour and extended internal jokes, try not to take things too seriously.

You have been warned.

Moreover, never listen to Doom. He's in Iris, which means he sniffs grounded Amiga floppies just to get high enough to rant here.

ps actually managed to give sound advice for a change -pick a small party, contact the organizers and the ball will get rolling. You might want to try Outline 2007</plug> :)

prop2K:

Pixelshow in Greece accepts remote submissions: http://pixelshow.demoscene.gr/compos.php

Might also be a good idea to make the release at a party, where the audience share the same points of view as you do in your demo - or you do share any, for that matter...
Serbia?
Get in touch with Kosmoplovci or Jailbird / Booze Design. Now.
And come to Function. :)

Yes. Go to Function.

And, no, being from a country with less than stellar numbers of sceners doesn't mean anything in the long run. Making stuff and having fun does.

I'll ask Tomcat/si (not Tomcat/hu, though the differences in answers would be fascinating - so perhaps I'll ask both) if he knows anyone still active in your general area, he's known quite a few folks in that GENERAL area over the years.
If all else fails you could team up with another group who are going to some party and release your demo as a coproduction.

prop2k: by the way, you don't need a party to release a demo, you can release it just like that. With scene.org, pouet.net and a few other websites, it will get spread fast enough if the prod is decent enough.

Or go the 80s way and send a few copies of your intro using floppy disks and snail-mail to a few selected swappers ;)

yes, or dive the BBSystems. F.e. get an account at Uphold The Law and
upload your prod there. Ramses would be delighted, I suppose :)

Thanks for helping us. Thanks for the great ideas and advices.

Thanks for the info about the Pixelshow party. I think we will begin there.
And I hope we will able to get to the Function. :)
I found Jailbird's email address, and i will contact him.
