Open source cooperative demoscene
category: general [glöplog]
You only want easy to steal opengl code :P
Nah, i dont do 'kusma-style' :P
I write my own code damnit ;)
should i dump vorbisfile and libmodplug and tinyptc and glut and sdl and jpeglib and pnglib?
Let the scene be like it were before, where friendship and flamewars was the heart of it all :)

"should i dump vorbisfile and libmodplug and tinyptc and glut and sdl and jpeglib and pnglib?"
Yes, *exactly*
I sure hope Scali, not kusma and all the others aren't using any of this stuff, since it would go against all what they're arguing for.

i'm quite sure kusma doesnt use any of these. i don't. there are (lots of) high-quality alternatives you know.
no sir, i do not use any of those libs.
png and jpg are for wimps anyway. real sceners use LBM!
nerds, linux, commies, penguins, opensource. all the same crap.
someone quick post some gayporn to make this a real pouet thread!
I don't use any of those libs.
However, I would use them, if I needed them.
I'm not against opensource, I'm against forcing opensource on everyone, everywhere, especially in places where it doesn't fit... Demoscene being a good example of such a place.

demos would be much less interesting, if you could watch the code. all the really GREAT demos would lose their magic keep your demo sources closed,
don't kill creativity!

> uh, why should opesource software be more usable, stable and high quality?
it doesn't have to be, of course. just like software doesn't have to suck just because it's lgpl:ed. (so easy to make wild generalizations, isn't it?). but there are a few shining examples. freebsd being one. a half decent (being generous here) os for $200 or a great os for $0. hmmm... i think i'll go for the latter thankyouverymuch, even though the makers are long haired commie hippies who fuck penguins (or more likely in this case, daemons), which for all intents and purposes, makes fuck all difference to me.

support for open source systems are usually also excellent. you can send in a bug report, and soon after there's a patch released to fix it. whereas with closed source systems such as windows, all you can do is sit and wait and hope they'll soon release a service pack that fixes the problem. (which could take a long time).
i take that your point is that by going public you'll just get bad advice and invalid bugfixes?-)
I really don't think you can compare FreeBSD and Windows.
They're both OSes, but they're like day and night.
I use both.
FreeBSD for my server, and Windows for my desktop.
But let me say, if I'd have to choose, I'd rather use Windows as a server than FreeBSD as a desktop, if you know what I mean.
If you don't, nevermind *sigh*
And don't make the mistake of lumping the FreeBSD crowd together with the rest of the opensource crowd. They just want to make a good server-OS and have fun. They don't use that anal GNU license that forces opensource world domination on everything that it touches, and they don't think they are competition for Windows, like those linux hippies.

Just to let you know, I love reading theoritical tutorials with pseudocode, and source code makes me dizzy ;P
Come to CPC, you know,. the one with 10 active sceners ;)

Hey, does unrolled loops work on SQL? :)
At least it does in Quickbasic but qb45 compiler gets out of memory if I am doing it ;)

I have read a 1337 trick oneday in one humoristic text. The more remarks you put, the faster your code is compiled. Haven't tried it to see if it is really running on my 286 =)
