Beastie Boys go Demoscene
category: general [glöplog]
i seen some funkstoerung video which was rather demostyled..
nothing in the demoscene is really new, most stuff has been thought of (altho some people might have thought up stuff that's alike independantly). but bottom line, i think there's REALLY little in the scene that's REALLY original.
Autechre's Gantz Graf video by Alex Rutterford sure is nice. Those of you who haven't seen it, can check out a quicktime version over here (5.5 MB). For better picture quality, just
buy the DVD ;-). Could someone recommend any other "demostyled" music videos besides the ones already mentioned?

there are _so_ many of those...
...how about Basscadet by Autechre?
(flying in tunnels and whatnot...)

the recently becoming popular "röyksopp" have released several unique music videos which all easily could have been "scene" productions (=> poor leeno(storytelling within three minutes .is. possible), epple & remind me). of course there are lots of other examples. there is so much original stuff out there that you easily get ashamed of how low the originality standard of the "scene" is (this is should be considered a motivation - not the opppsite).
generally speaking i agree that, commercial or not, demoscene has a lot to learn from the music video industry.
raver: the one music video by funkstörung i remember is the brillant "grammy winners" which was done by designers republic (see e.g. wipeout).
i´d be *very* thankful if anyone has an .avi or something of it.
does creativity neglect code?

i rember an add n to (x) video looking similar to certain satori demos, but i don't remember the name of the track.
designers republic does a lot of shite too.. but that one rocks indeed so let's DIVX it and add as a demo
MF!, the Basscadet video is also on the Gantz Graf DVD. It's nice, but it's really old (from 1994). Give me more...
fiver2, yes Röyksopp has several nice music videos and have won several awards for them. As I already confessed, our group is ashamed to have so low originality standard, that we actually borrowed the idea from Röyksopp's Eple to our own [http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=7145]intro. I guess it doesn't make our crime any smaller, but I've seen the "picture in picture" zoomer in many commercials and music videos before Eple.
Here is the "grammy winners" video in .rm format (6 MB). While we are at it, let's [http://www.pitchshifter.com/v2/video/video012c.html]throw in the Pitchshifter's Hidden agenda as well (20 MB .mov).

And here is the Pitchshifter link again ;-)
Ulver - Limbo Central
It's even got a scroller and a tunnel ;)
Sounds interesting :-). I haven't seen it, if it's online somewhere, someone please post a link...
Hei sceners,
I enjoy you recognize our work bringing the demo scene closer to musicians like the Beastie Boys.
Much help is requiered from your side though. Many people at the Beastie Boys community never heard
what it means to produce something demo art like. You know. I was shocked by some entries I received.
Please help if you can. What we are looking for badly over there at beastieboys.com are logos like the one made fo pouet.net.
If some of you could create such amazing logos for the Beastie Boys, you'll become a popstar and definitly
win one of the prizes.
Loppu,
Sir Dan
