I know a guy who co-wrote a whole book using HTML+CSS. Ok that's a technical book without extravagant typography/layout but it shows it's possible to make something readable(?) out of web standards.

If the articles of a diskmag are good enough that one would want to print them, IMHO it's not a big deal if the print style is simple.

Another approach for a super stylish diskmag would be to make the equivalent of a texture/sound/mesh generator for layout. It would allow for insane layout and typography with a small footprint. Ultimately it could even generate the mag as images ready to print.

Something that would be quite cool:

Simulate the physical behaviour of a book or a paper magazine. I.e., show how the pages are flipped. Allow the user to control the hand of the reader. Allow him to create wrinkles, dog-ears etc. Allow him to tear up pages and crumple them up. Perhaps even simulate a desktop and a trashcan so you can play "basketball" ;)

That would be quite innovative and a big step forward from the traditional diskmag to something completely new.

There could also be a simulation of the physical behaviour of a lamer explaining why scene is dead or how to make fabulous rasterbars with QBasic. You could make him cry by smashing him on the face or by pulling his pants down. This would be a big step forward from the traditional diskmag format into a more realistic way of how sceners actually interact.

Adok: I disagree, IMO it would not be a step forward. Adding realism doesn't necessarily make the result more entertaining (the same counts for games too).

Axel: It's not really about more realism but about more interactivity. Simulate a virtual world in which the scener can read the articles from the diskmag - or maybe not even read them, but listen to a voice reading them! And interviews could be recorded with authentic voices, with animated characters pretending to be interviewer and interviewee... There could be several rooms with musical performances, screens on which demos are displayed, etc... It should be a virtual "Scene House" or maybe even "Scene World".

Dipswitch: I believe you should have a fine balance of everything. (of course if possible) .. Well presented and sounding diskmag is more enjoyable to read. Can make less quality articles seem more average.

Maybe its like shagging a tramp in a backstreet or shagging a tramp in a penthouse.. :) it would make some kinda difference.
