oh, THAT's what a 'demoscene' is
category: general [glöplog]
p0wd3r: well, you at least came back to learn, that gives you far more credit in my book than the person you're working with. Who, incidentally, has pissed off a large number of American sceners.
I would be one of those American sceners, just so you're aware of my position here. (Which, in your allegory of the train and the tunnel, would be 'Urectum.' I'm a planet reeeeealy far away, and my rotation is askew from normal. I also go by different names.)
I'd suggest searching for some party reports - some are videos here; some are articles in 'diskmags' like 'pain' and 'hugi.' Some you can find on the web - Hugi recently put all it's content online for the last issue, Pain has put selected articles online for some time.
Then, I might suggest watching the scene.org awards, and watch particularly for the joy people get from a demoparty.
That's what I'd hope you're aiming for, something that shows folks who enjoy being creative that there's a venue for their creativity.
Anything else is bonus.

As far as the rest of you though, keep in mind that sometimes you're the train, sometimes you're the tunnel.

You know, all things that are "mostly European" are either ultraboring or otherwise horrible shit, such as soccer, classical music, socialist governments and sauerkraut. You don't want to advocate your favorite stuff in the context of sauerkraut, do you?
hey, all those things are actually cool! especially socialist governments and sauerkraut. =)
ok, since this thread derailed already time for a pic:
Maali: Actually, the thread re-railed.
wtf?
I WANT YOU AT PILGRIMAGE 2006!
Actually, I won't be making it out this year, I hope everyone who does will take plenty of photographs and write party reports so I can live vicariously through you all.

nitro2k01: Funny! I thought exactly the same thing! I had no idea that that thing existed outside movies and such. It's such a stupid name :S
Maybe I'm just too stupid to find it, but ...
Where are the results and releases of "the longest running event of its kind in North America"?

p0wd3r: Demoscene thing didn't happen. Those who paid the extra 5.00 can expect a refund of that extra money shortly.

(from the http://www.protocol42.org/ oneliner)
Is entertaining after years reading this.
Regarding the topic of this thread: I recall reading in a scientific thesis about the demoscene some years ago that demosceners call themselves "sceners" because the demos they make consist of several "scenes". :)
damn what about intro coders then :\
^^
^^
because they are introverts, what else?
1:0 for you :D

Yeah, or much more realistically:
*especially* considering the demoscene name probably came forth from the cracking scene.
There. Dumbass psuedo scientific bullshit mythbusted.

it's actually dialect from Lutjebroek and a 'scener' is a type of ship that doesn't float.

Still more plausible than what adok came up with.
i refer to myself as demoscene rockstar, cos if you make a sphere in 3ds max and apply a noise filter over them, they resemble rocks. i got quite good at them! if anyone ever needs rocks in a demo, im your rockstar!

Haha, never thought about it :)
I'm only introvert in a sort of introspective way.
