navis: actually i think most people believe it will all be ready in time. We just find it funny that it will be ready only 24 hours or so before, and some of the non-essential stuff (like roofs) gets left out. Perhaps thats just the way it worked out, or maybe there is some of that "we'll do it when we have to, and we don't have to finish it today" attitude, who knows. Wasn't the last government blamed for that or something?
Anyway, the power shouldn't be an issue, the olympics buildings have their own power generators.

The 'go ahead' was given a few years ago, I think something like 97/98 ?.. Unfortunately, the world has changed a bit since then. I've heard that they had to spend shitloads of money on more security - which is a result of 9/11 !
Anyway, I am not quite sure who to blaim in general. You can imagine that it is a combination of many factors : Just think of how many local & foreign contractors worked there - Some of them failed, some of them didn't.. I don't really think it would be the government's fault, if the whole thing goes out of schedule..
(I might be wrong at that though.. The red tape and the logistics are beyond my comprehension.. :-))

It was in 1997 that Athens was selected for the olympic games.
And everybody has a power outage every now and then, like the US had a major one last year. The difference is that summer power outages are rather common in greece, so when one happends, nobody panics like civilization came to an end. We just sit back smile, smoke and socialize :-P

I help you out: Sharon & Bush
... oh yes... and after that shitloads of terrorists of course...
Actually, i heard one person in particular is to blame. he's called Arthur Schoenberg, was born may 23rd 1965 in Kelliher, SK, Canada. No clue where he's at now but it's said he's the cause of everything.
hm... sounds like Nostradamus prophecy or something hehehe :)
Maybe he's the leader of the illuminati?

I'd rather have a electricity black-out for a few hours in Athens, than a large train accident
Train accident in Athens? The best you can hope for is a donkey pile-up.
\o/
yes thread comes back
omg
worst olympic games ever /o\
-no people at stadiums (locals support beach and not the games)
-judges do all they can so USA can win more and more medals
-in a result of this less medals for russians and more countries

As i've understood from the tabloids, the problem with the greek olympics is that everything is scattered over a large geographical area. So to get from one type of event to another the audicence has to travel up to 5 hours, which of course is enough to enjoy one event and kick back at the beach afterwards :D
Evil :
I can see that your bottom is still sore from Euro2004 final.. ;-)
kisses from greece.
