-1 for facebook-integration... :p

Can you define what you mean by "Facebook integration"? It can range from a full app (like Reed suggested) or down to a simple "Share on Facebook"-link.

gloom, no matter, it's all bad, cause it means telling evil schmevil 26 year olds which sites i visit, without my consent!

for the conspiracy theorists, please also note that i wasn't suggesting a forceful import of pouet or demozoo whatever to facebook, and i certainly wasn't suggesting force-linking people to their slengpung pictures on facebook :) the app would be based on voluntary registration, and it definitely shouldn't require you to disclose any information you don't want to, neither to other users of the app nor to the general public.

the point is - exposure in social media would help in making the scene more accessible to potentially interested people. whether it's desirable or not is of course still open to debate :)

to be honest, what i need currently is the demozoo functionality and perhaps some layout changes here on pouet.net (i.e. if youtube is attached to prod - then embed player rather than showing screencap etc)

+1 !

because what people need is even less incentive to download the realtime version.

re what Garg said just now +1, that said I think youtube links appearing is useful

re "i dont really like the idea of connecting facebook/linkedin with pouet/slengpung/etc."

How would FB or other integration help with recruitment anymore than the existence of a demoscene group on FB or whatever?
I like that someone has to work a little to find out my civilian name, for example.
I like to keep LinkedIn, Facebook and Slengpung far apart, that's for sure :)

Slengpung should remain the best kept secret on the internet!

This thread is in itself a very good epitome of why recruitment and productivity is failing.

Adding addthis.com buttons on prod pages would suffice in terms of social media integration
sitting in fromt of a puter is not social

we need a unabomber!!!!
Facebook integration is one step, but demoscene could learn from mobile and facebook developers in general.

Crosspromotion - demos advertised in other demos. You add a banner to your demo and your banner will be visible in all demos that use the crosspromotion system. Views cost points and you earn point every time someone runs your demo and sees the banner. Extra views can be bought by converting glöps to crosspromotion points.

Take this further and crosspromote demos in Facebook apps and mobile games. Someone playing Farmville clone sees ad of your demo and is amazed how cool the banner looks, clicks the banner and downloads demo -> more people exposed to demoscene. And I don't think demosceners would have anything against Facebook game banners in demos.

Lengthen the lifetime of demos. Demoscene is pretty much locked to pre-internet era in software development when it comes to updates. Someone watches your demo once and that's it. Almost none of the available demos get any updates. Instead of this we could just release demos half ready and update them constantly. After every update everyone who has watched the demo would get notified by fancy e-mails like "Hey dude! We have added amazing new scroller to C-64 Megademo 89 and added support for DirectX 11 and 64-bit Windows. Follow this link to download free update."

Archievements and other metagames. These hook people, they are like heroin to weak minds. By watching demos one could earn archievements like "Farbrausch lover" for watching 10 Farbrausch demos, "Hacker" for finding 5 hidden parts in demos and so on. Archievements, badges and similar could also be awarded to demomakers.

sauli, why would we start on such a commercial path? :-)
you know, somehow i get the feeling that he might not be completely serious.

Even if he is, we already have Scenepoints.

This will also help with greetings in demos. Instead of having to spend time typing all those names and trying not to forget anyone, we can simply embed a Facebook widget that displays all our friends.
