maali, I have nothing against subjectivity or objectivity here actually. It's not objectivity i'm chasing but lazyness that pains me. Thom nicely pointed out the variety of words one can use, each conjuring different images or even prejudices; they are already a great start.

parapete, often I never know what people make call something pretentious. Things I find honest or even refreshingly low key, sometimes get called pretentious. *People* I find honest even in their lies get called pretentious. It can be understood when what's been judged is a bit showy, yet again it's one of those judgements that attribute thoughts in the creator.. Again, a quick attack at the person rather than a constructed answer.

As for people who understand the topic as something more serious than an attempt to shake people up, I'm sorry that we don't know each other well enough for this to be more obvious. So visit a demoparty and say hi.

What a boring topic.

We should have a 'boring' with wich people can insert a random nonconstructive 'boring' comment. Saves them time, and the rest of us can at least filter it out.

Some people use to shout "boooooriiiing" during democompo shown on bigscreen as well.

Boring is something that makes you itchy to press that magic button called 'Esc'. It is a tingly feeling on the coccyx.

I think this "issue" needs to be divided into two parts:

1) Those who just say "boring" and give a prod a piggie..

2) Those who use the word "boring" in a wider context, for example "the graphics were allright, but the music was boring and the whole prod was easily forgettable".

Number 1 is bad, number 2 is ok. :)

Boring is a word that, when applied to a demo correctly, causes others to see red.

when music is boring and the visuals are boring and any other content is boring and it was boring downloading this 20mb prod, i say boring.

What the fucking hell is the aim of that shit? As if someone'd care about what's being said in a comment. A comment is available for you to say what you think, not to say what you think with borders over those you can be banned, i mean, democracy dude.

Known to us non-pretentious people as "adjectives".




So if I'm in the scene it sucks, and when I'm out it rules. Then how am I ever going to enjoy the scene? :(

maybe the laziness in response is a result of the feeling of effortlessness that the thumbed-down production generated in the observer's mind? as in ... why would someone spend more time in elaborating why it is TEH SUCKS if the authors clearly didnt _bother_ to make it TEH ROCKS either?

Don't you think we should have a tag system in Pouet? People could just tag boring prods as "boring" and the comment space would be saved from crap!

Of course, those specifically looking for boring prods could also be able to generate a ranking list of top "boring"-tagged prods.

Viznut: The idea of having a more segmented evaluation system for the prods on Pouet has in fact been discussed many times over, but every time it always ends in someone that has actually _seen_ the webcode saying "Yeah, it would be nice but it ain't happening, because Pouet is a MESS!"

..this time it's Gargajs turn I think. :)

Then we could tag stuff like "AMIGA!" or "hypnoglow" or "GL_LINES" or even "pretentious artycrap". I'm all for it!
