When is the first time you saw a demo ?

category: general [glöplog]
A friend of mine knew a scener which gave us a shitload of demos and intro's ( late/middle 80ies). After watching it all I began coding some c64 myself. Went too some meeting in Haninge/Sweden. Sold my computer. Almost didn't touch a computer for ~8 years. Bought myself a pc and searched, just for fun, after demos and found Sunflower - Tesla.

Technophobia/The Sharks in 92.

The 2Unlimited digi made me go wild those days, nowadays it mostly makes me cry...

it was 1987 on c64 and first one on amiga was the tristar party demo our so... =)
First time I saw a demo was 'Planet Risk' by ASD. (which I also wrote the code for).

That was around 67-68, on a IBM KD1100 series. In Fortran.

fucksake, i was too busy playing Digger to watch demos back then!
2nd reality by future crew, somewhere in -94 i think. boy, it took quite some time to download it with a 2400bps modem.

Would've been Demons Are Forever sometime in late '88. Didn't really know what it was at the time, but thought it looked cool. Bought an A500 the following summer, which opened the floodgates for me.
i guess it was probe/tbl on #trax dccing me stash when i discovered there was more to the scene than fasttracker.

1991 in mostr party when my girlfriend showed me a demo she had made in a prog language that i dont recall it looked liked fractal animation but it was sweet.
1978-1982:
I saw several "text-inscriptions" of programs on Apple II and Zilog80 (lightyears ahead to an Intel 8080 back then. ;) )
But there was neither stand-alone code we use to call "intro/demo" nowadays nor a "scene".

1982:
A friendly game-coder told us that he was annoyed about crackers who change his "programmed by..." into "cracked by ..."
And a bunch of friends CFB,BCS,PC did a picture... ;)

It wasn't called "berlin bear" in 1982.
It had no special name at all.
Some people got it wrong in 1982, it absolutely has nothing to do with swastika symbols!
Maybe we should have used a "Bratwurst". ;)
The "bear" is just the heraldic animal/flag for our hometown Berlin/Germany.

i think (but am not sure) that the first scene-thing i saw was some intro on the amiga with a bouncing elephant (or something) on some landscape and "the longest scrolltext in the scene"... iirc the scroller was around 40min long. and the colours could've been bluish. if someone can point out what this was, i'd be rather grateful. (this was sometime in 1987-1989, iirc)

Before seeing that i had naturally seen a big bunch of cracktros as well, but someone said those don't count. I remember that as a kid i associated the cracking groups as the actual makers of the game (like, for example, i wanted to play flood which to me was made by scoopex). i was lame back then.

I _think_ that the first real demo i saw was budbrain megademo. but it could've been something else as well.

And on the pc side it was, i guess, crystal dreams or 2nd reality.

and oh yeah: before those i had seen "effect demonstrations" on various pc-like platforms. One drew cubes and circles on screen in basic and iirc it was the coolest thing i had ever seen (the cubes made the whole thing look like a city). That was around 1983-1985.

For me that was in 87-89. Alas I don't remember which of the Fujiboink, the The Union demo or The B.I.G. demo I had first. Before that I had seen some cracktros and altered title picture on Atari and Amstrad.

First demo I saw was "Around all four dimensions", a co-op demo between Mfx, Silents and Traction, this was in 2014.
No, wait. What year is this? shiiiit.

Ehh, i think the first one i saw was the MCA cracktro for Ghouls 'n' Ghosts (Atari ST). that was back in 1989/1990 i guess. But it could also have been Fuji Boink on the Atari 600XL. That would have been around the same time.

Much cracktro watching followed.. Real demo worship came much later (sadly) and had to wait till the Falcon030 (late 1993).

First real demo was Mental Hangover
I thought it was a rather lengthy crack intro and wondered why I couldn't skip to the game by clicking the mouse :)
