by the way, for emergencies we can hook up a computer or two to the internet (via my phone), e.g. for downloading libraries, releases, etcetera. in that case, just get in touch with the organisers.

i never really understood why demoparties need internet so bad. i mean, if you have it it's nice, but i never missed it when it wasn't there.

With any luck, my fallback plan for at least giving us a bridged IRC server (so people on the outside can talk to people on the inside) will work. As this relies on a custom hackjob to get "tethering" it's not going to work for anything else.

We cannot provide individuals with 24h internet access. The local Albert Heijn supermarket sells a prepaid card which gives you internet access using the KPN (Dutch national phone company) network for €2,50/megabyte. We cannot guarantee, however, that this will work at all times at the party location.

Yeah, I heard Maali mentioning at IRC earlier that the party location doesn't probably even have a proper coverage for mobile internet. Then again, I'll be adventuring in NL in the future too at some point, so local prepaid card would be handy otherwise too.

Enough drinks, and I'll be like "What internet?!" After all, all the people from the internetz will be at the party anyways... :)

just saying that getting 3G in meadows depends on the number of cows blocking the signal from the nearest city

We (me and my minion Topy) had an idea like this:

He's bringing a grill (and all the related stuff) with him, so while we have the equipment, we could make some use of it. I was then wondering whether we could gather a punch of people (like ~10, or so) and everyone would pay about ~10 euros (negotiable) and with that money we'd go to the supermarket and buy shitloads of stuff to grill - meat, chicken, fish, sausages, vegetables. We have cooler to use too so don't worry about food poisoning :)

If you're interested, let me know (here or jenni @ #breakpoint (IRCnet)), it would be a shame not to make use of the grill while it's there, and I'll rather prepare stuff for larger group than just to myself :)
