How superficial to blame the stagnation of the Dark Ages on christianity; this is just as silly as blaming the dictatorships calling themselves "communist" on the actual idea of communism. The names of good ideas are repeatedly abused to disguise oppressing regimes, and history developed the way it did rather because of rises and falls of empires decided by the outcome of wars and trade, not because of the label the rulers used because it was the current way of seducing the masses at the given time. Blaming the harm on the original ideas just continues the abuse.

Was it not the Christians that civilized the invading barbarians after the roman empire tore itself apart?
The so called barbarians actually took part in the Roman parliament and had their saying, just like the EU today :D
