It's the same Jeskola (I founded it together with @elpuri) but I don't
think Buzz should be considered a "demoscene thing". We haven't done any
scene stuff in 20 years.
i would leave it under the same group in the database...
ps: if anything, the mail confirms that buzz is probably one of the least scene related trackers/tools we now have in the db (and we have quite some debatable stuff; I'm waiting for the day someone adds renoise) and the relation to J!P (which did not exist anymore at the point of release) is so thin, that, I'd say the thing should be left alone with Oskari given credit and that's it. (thanks for writing the mail though (brackets!!1)).

Re: "demoscene thing"
It doesn't really matter what the author thinks. Many things have been adopted by the scene i.e. the group of people, subculture of whatever. ST-01 is a demoscene thing. And http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=34731

Being used by thousands of sceners doesn't retroactively make it a scene production though. Otherwise we could also twist history even a bit further and claim that all these famous 80s pop songs were scene productions because they use sounds that clearly sound like ST-01 because they happen to be sampled from the same synth gear. :D
All the hacking that was done on UST is clearly demoscene material, but the original tracker itself? It's doubtful.

But then again, you provided a screenshot that tells us that the buzz website was once hosted on scene.org, which somehow tells us that there was a scene connection, at least in the very beginning (I know the website moved to a new place very quickly).
The demotools category has ever been the most wonky one at pouet. We are pretty much at a point where any software tool is fair game as long as it was made by a scener (or involved one at some point) and somehow helps making a demo (or a game or any other piece of software really...). Also, plenty of things were/are on scene.org with marginal scene relations at best. So again, no clear authoritative lines. It comes down to consensus what to keep and what to discard. For Buzz the consensus is 'keep', for Renoise I'd say, it would be very hard to make a case.
On the buzz issue it seems that after Jeskola! Productions were disbanded in 1995 Phantom^Jaskola took on the name of the group as his scener handle and in 1997 released buzz on buzz.scene.org website. In 1998 he moved the site on www.buzz2.com and was working on buzz 2.0 and on several updates on buzz 1.0, still the buzz2.com seems to be abandoned around 2001. From 2001 to 2008 Otari seems to be developing buzzVST from the 1.x buzz source code branch while halting the development of buzz 2.0. Buzz 1.0 is given to the community. Around 2008 Otari starts developing buzz 2.0 again and releases a stable version around june 2008. Development continues until today utilizing the build number system. My speculation is that Otari lost the original source (and thus motivation to continue development) of buzz 2.0 hence the development stopped from 2001 to 2008. buzz certainly has roots in the demoscene although it certainly became popular out of it as well.

Ahem. The "speculation" ever was that he lost his hard disk in 2000, didn't have a sufficient backup, hence development stopped. Then came the clones: Buzztart (today: Buzztrax), Buzzle, Project Cockslap (yup, the paniq one, anyone remember that? :P), Aero Studio (commercial) and Buzé. Buzz 1.2 is the last "real" version; then development resumed in 2008. For all intends and purposes, the latest build is pretty much Buzz 2.0
But really, it's getting off-topic, the case is closed, and this is still the fmb thread and not the 'member the Buzz' post-apocalypse years thread. :)
