Are you a psychonaut?
category: general [glöplog]
This thread is something I should have done a long time ago, but I've always seen it as a delicate subject, so I avoided asking about it.
But our time on this planet will soon run out (I turned 29 last Friday), and I need to satisfy my curiosity - plus I'm mighty bored.
Who of you has had experiences with substances that Ernst Jünger classifies as "mexican" - which boils down to any 5-HT2A partial or full receptor agonist such as: LSD, Psilocybin, DMT, Mescaline, Morning Glory seeds and Hawaiian Baby Woodrose seeds (I believe the list is not complete)?
Have you done any production (within the scene?) that was influenced by such an experience? Please plug your URL's :)
I know that almost everything on the list above has been declared illegal; I understand if you can't come forward and talk openly about it.
Please don't name other people but yourself ;)
I start with myself: I have made a few experiences with some of the substances listed above. I think both "Die Ewigkeit schmerzt" and "Masagin" relate to it, plus some of my music.
(I hope I don't get bashed for this.)

We can't stop here. This is bat country!
You're getting bashed for this.

Contrary to what some people would assume none of our demos have been made under the influence of such products. i think. There are a few i can't vouch for, though.
havent tried any hallucinogenics, would be interesting but im abit skeptic on chemical lab follery doing some permanent damage (which seems to be most of what can be found around for sale in the discos and other dark corners of the city life), would be cool to try out some more natural stuff like salvia divinorum for example.
making demos on drugs is cheating!
Yeah, it's almost like doping
Natural stuff isn't exactly more easy for the brain. It is a shame this is a open forum, being crawled by googlebot. Let's just say I do drugs-education at large house-parties as a (volunteer) job. I'll be more than happy to talk about my experiences and how it affects my view on demos as well as it influences my contribution to our productions, but I'm not gonna put that up in detail here.
I do consider myself a psychonaut an I know for a fact that there is more between heaven and earth, more between dreams and reality and that all experiences, all matter and this whole existence is just here because it was handy at some point. Consensus prohibits me walking through that table, for example.

ps: there are rumours that hi-quality mushrooms can easily be imported to your place by snail mail. i guess there is no chemist's foolery involved as it is a purely natural product. ;)
btw salvia is a bitch to consume (it's not water soluble), unless you are used to smoking bongs which i am not

They are certainly interesting in combo with psychedelic demos and other fractalish shapes... especially when you notice that the shapes extend beyond the screen borders at times. Interesting to say the least.
Actually, Doctor (by Trilobit) was inspired in part with my experiences with sleep & depression medication. Just so you know.
Alcohol is hardly psycho-active, hardly hallucinating, still it is a quite entertaining substance though, the only drawback is that is so freakin' addictive. Combined with water the risk of hangovers isn't that much of a problem.
ps, kaivalya:
David Seibert (the guy who isolated the active component of salvia divinorum) will sell you a salvia solution that you can absorb sub-lingually. You can chew on the leaves and stick them under your tongue as well, that works fine, and is slower. Since it's a pure hallucinogen it's an interesting way to go off the rails. My initial designs for the deep zoom in Binary Alchemy ( http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=51459 ) had like 20 more quite hallucinogenic levels which were rejected for weirdness and lack of artist time.
Speaking from personal experience and my discussions with people with really awesomely severe synaesthesia , the most interesting effects are ones where you're trying to 'bring the fire back' for everyone else to look at. Where the hell do people think music vizzes come from? :D

Well Hoffman himself used to do a little LSD every week, and he died at 100 and something. So it can't be that hazardous if you don't abuse it.
But don't you see?! That's exactly what Hofmann WANTS you to think!
*bash*bash* ... most of my hallucinogen experiments took place a long time ago so wtf. i liked most of it but paid the price for using extensively in a certain period of my life. let's just say there is better drugs for you if you have a depressive downside. but that goes for the woohoo-i-am-legal-drug alcohol aswell.
these guys rock :) definitely gotta check out their game..
kaivalya: the planet of leather moomins offers free brochures to their inhabitants on how to =http://www.tpolm.com/archive/gravityb/]have a nice time on the pertaining issue at hand. havent handled one myself in quite a while though.
guybrush: many of the early minimalartifact experiments were done seeking the synesthesia thing between sounds emotions and colors, plenty of cannabis derivatives was consumed during the process, but no hallucinogenics. and their just experiments, no real transcendental revelation crawled out of the monitor, even if some of them lead to interesting states of meditation on the meaning of life and all that jazz. but then i realized i could get into those kind of states by simply meditating, without consuming cannabis, so it made sense to stop wasting money on something that was dodgy with the law to begin with. i dont really care much to admit it in public, its not like i hide it from my parents and employer that i once messed with it. i find alcohol, cafeine and tobaco alot more dangerous to yourself and others. bottomline is always: if you're self medicating yourself legal or illegally you should always be responsible about it and think twice before using it as an excuse to go on whatever kind of senseless rampage. you're always responsible for your actions regardless of your state of mind during the time anyways.

ps: "word."
hermes: im quite aware of lack of web anonymity concearns. this is simply an issue i have no problem admitting in public. left for each person to decide.
