DJs at Demoparties

category: parties [glöplog]
I have seen this trend more and more lately (and I'm not sure the trend is new).

More and more demoparties have livegigs and DJs, some even have dancefloors (with various success).
It this cool? Is this scene? I really wonder cause there are very strong opinions about it, both for and against.

Please indulge in this discussion and keep in mind that a livegig/djset/dancefloor doesn't necesarily have to be in the main partyroom.

if the artists are sceners, it should be considered 'scene' .. tho, i personally arent really a fan of gamemusic-bands or smth that have very little or maybe even no relationship with the scene. e.g. that gameboyband at last BP.
i don't see why not.

ye. it's ok, dude.
lets put it this way: if some sceners find it interesting then its welcome. the more activities to check the better right? specially if they are also made by sceners or have gamemusic/8bit influences.

Yeah, I'm a musician myself and I love when there is dancemusic played at demoparties and I like livegigs when they are scenerelated. Some like to complain on this trend that demoparties should be not so loud.

That might however be another odd trend I've seen in Sweden where quite a few think that parties should be silent. Or it might be that not everyone likes dancemusic or, as I am putting to question in this thread - it might not be valid at all at the party.

as for the djs .. so far i only saw sceners djing, i guess this counts as 'scene' =)

tho, i still find those pornophonique-appearances odd.

I rather see demos, movies, wilds etc on the bigscreen than a dj pumping out music destroying the local spirit held up by the equipment brought by the visitors.

For the small parties at least.

dj's/gigs rock! entertainment rocks, if only 'scene based' entertainment (demoshows etc) was allowed parties would be flippin' boring imho. I still have great memories of tum04 and yoda spinning the decks!

thec: at compusphere me and nisse had a pretty nice raveparty starting at my screen with demos that has trance/techno soundtracks. We were some people who started to dance. After a while a DJ started playing instead and he played DnB (with breaks (pauses that doesn't have beats)) every minute - impossible to dance too. That was pretty boring.

dnb is the only danceable music. fuckings to everything that isn't dnb.

kusma - for once in my life i agree with you with all my heart. =)

i remember that there was raves at demoparties 10 years ago already, so it's not a new trend. anyone who thinks it's a new thing just hasn't been at parties in the past.

Breakpoint parties pretty much showed that livegigs and DJ-sets are nothing to complain about - pretty much on the contrary actually.

I agree with okkie. Scene Event, BCN Party, TUM and Breakpoint had excellent dj's. I really enjoyed the gigs at
BCN party last year :)
