Why are so many useless & moronic fools fond of amiga?

category: general [glöplog]
All platforms have their share of idiots worshipping them, but for some reason it seems like the percentage of fanatics who do
nothing but praise their machine and all things related to it is waaaay higher for amiga than for any other platform.
Any ideas about why?
YOU ARE LUCKY THERE ARE NO MAC DEMOS!!

amiga was once a great computer... it had a lot of support, a great demo scene, and was generally cool to have. Now, put that together with the general tendency of some people to become fanboys, and you have perhaps the most hardcore fanboy population the world has ever known. And there are always a few so stubborn, so hardened against all oposition to their point of view, that even when the platform keeled over and died, they decided to continue as before and wait patiently for the second coming. Or was that christians?

Mac could also have the same problem indeed, but i'm reckoning it will be the xbox next personally.

Btw, if microsoft somehow collapsed, and the scene moved on to say mac or linux or whatever, who would stay with pc for the next 10 years? Any volunteers?

psionce: that doesnt explain why the moron-percentage seems to be quite a bit higher for amiga than for c64... especially when you take into consideration that the active demoscene on c64 is actually larger than on amiga..
slemmy: true... maybe the c64 sceners are a few years older and more mature, but i don't think that explains it. Btw, does anyone happen to have statistics on morons in various scenes?

Actually, one thing may explain it: c64 was perhaps the first computer to approach mainstream, amiga perhaps WAS the first real mainstream computer, and mainstream is something i personally associate with a higher percentage of morons. Plus, the scene had a pretty high profile on the amiga, which i guess it hasn't since PC became more mainstream.

It would be logical that the C64 has one of the biggest oldschool followings, given that it was the most sold computer system.

Ever.

Why are so many useless & moronic fools fond of amiga?

The same reason so many useful and intelligent people are.

The same reason people are fanatical about Atari ST, Commodore 64, Macintosh, The BeOS, Linux and so on.
You could even put excessive patriotism, swooning over movie stars and (especially) sports teams in there.
When people like something, there is always a potential to get fanatical about it.

My theory is that the amiga became too similar too the PC at some points so the capable people just switched over, without missing it too much. These who are left are just the crackpots that do not like the amiga for its technical brilliance (which has significantly faded with the introduction of ECS and AGA) but due to fanatasm, other weird stuff.
The eight bitters are a totally different issue.

perhaps it's not only the machine that makes it. in fact, the amiga scene, both warez and demo, always seemed to me more intense, elitist and friendship-spirited in the same way than the pc scene ever was. the amiga _scene_ itself had and perhaps still has a large fascination potential. although i come from the pc side, the amiga scene gets my biggest sympathies.

First, the Atari ST was superior, so amiga people just had to put up big mouths to make it look like the amiga was better. And then, when Atari died and the amiga people finaly thought their time had come the PC scene suddenly took over. So amiga people have always been in the defense because their platform has always been inferior, and that's why they're always bragging so much about their system. People whose platform is in the lead don't need that kind of attention.

How's that for trolling? ;-)

Now you just have to explain why the Atarist was better in technical terms.

GAAAAAH O_O
how about some absolute facts instead of this useless conjecture. How many % of amigans (?) are actually moronic? And for comparison, how many % ST, c64 and PC (apologies to fanatics of those platforms not mentioned, please don't kill me) sceners are morons?
