Well, to be honest demo itself wasn't so good. But I liked 2D gfx and fact you choose limited pc hw.
Is netbook really limited hardware? My N270 runs 'Popular Demo'-era stuff just fine, the only problem I've found is textures above 256x256 sometimes get broken.
"Netbook" might explain why it is that ugly due to their lack of useability, but it is not an excuse for such crap.
