Not bad, but the exe is a bit big, IMHO. What are you using that much space for?
I hope a final will come so I can give my thumb up.

stage7: the actual "exe" is 9967 bytes (totally unoptimized, most space taken up by bloated .pngs) the rest is for the runtime for some obscure platform (not really like flash but somehow similar)
cheers :)
cheers :)
Ah, then you may want to use some of the many tools available to dramatically reduce those PNGs, as a suggestion ;)
Have you also thought about hardcoding the chars and trying some colour formula for the gradients? That may help too. I still don't know much about coding but maybe the distortion effect would work the same way as with images.

stage7: thanks for the suggestions but this was just done to make an intro about "it". nothing serious. could be done in 4k. i'm not into size-coding, just innit for the fun of it :) (hi trixter!)
no music is so 1986
ok. so idling == 60 fps.
moving mouse around == 59.5829.
clicking on firefox == 58.7649.
thanks !

4 hours.
listen to dubmood
big, ugly, no music
The effect is actually rather cool if you watch the stars. Why care about size these days of broadband? It's trivial to pack it if needed and useless optimization is useless.
dis is liek.... beeeeeeeeg! too fuckin beeeeg! and it's boring.
pfff

boring, big, shit.
updated the .zip file since I forgot to turn on the JIT :P
CPU usage should be ok now (~5-6 times faster now).

doesn't work
Code:
[---] TKS exception ACCESS_VIOLATION caught (write to 0x0d188020)
[---] Runtime callstack:

not bad
nice fx... but that´s it
not a bad effect :). but sorry, it's way too big, and no music sucks...
i like the effect a lot
I like the warp in the stars. It would be better with some music.
The "moving the mouse, clicking on firefox, lower frame rate" comment is stupid. What did you expect?

Its a nice effect, keep working on the optimisation. Would be a piggy, but I'll give a thumb to balance the unconstructive negativity.
The "moving the mouse, clicking on firefox, lower frame rate" comment is actually not that stupid at all. It appears that the intro slows down to about half its framerate when I move my mouse, so there is definitely something fishy. In a way this reminds me of some of the older Haujobb intros, where you had to wank your mouse in order to keep the framerate up, just in the inverse way.
okish effect. and ??
Make a complet demo was better.

Nice, but 2 megs for that ?!
Too huge and also not a cracktro.
Kind of liked the effect though.

I changed my mind about the size.

I updated the zip file once again because of a small glFlush()/swapBuffers() related issue.
(if you are curious: I recently removed the flush call but just realized that that was a mistake. I guess I mixed up desktop GL with OpenGL|ES.. eglSwapBuffers() does an implicit flush while e.g. wglSwapBuffers does NOT)
could you please give it a try again to see if the "fishy" framerate bug is gone now ?
all: thanks for your feedback. next time I will invest a bit more time before releasing and will ask around for gfx/sound. I just liked the effect and wanted it to share with you (before it collects dust)
