On my Vista box, DirectX 10 is installed (I verified this with dxdiag), and yet I get only this:
Quote:

I'll install DirectX 9.0c on another PC and try it there.

runs fine on my vista³² with DirectX10 !
but i second Maali aswell...and you could have used some more steps in the size of the objects, the houses came a bit early...still I LIKE KATAMARI !
what an ugly beast :\

It runs fine on my older computer on which I installed the latest DirectX 9 SDK from November 2008.

Not a bad demo. It is all about a moving sticky ball which takes any object it bumps into along with it. Some scenes look unrealistic (e.g. when the houses sink - they sink below the ground instead of cracking apart), but maybe that was intended. The music first reminded me of Candytron, but when I watched Candytron again, it turned out that it's quite different.

Fuck. I don't get the same colors as in the screenshots, I guess I have to buy a new graphics card. But what I have seen there is funny, scene katamari and katamari upscroller, great idea =)

Works until the mfx alike tunnel sequence here on my vista notebook, then it crashes. What I've seen so far is nice overall. I especially like the idea with the Katamari ball. Unfortunately it really needs better direction and design.

First of all: Sorry to Styx for picking the wrong soccer club :)
To run the demo, the DirectX9.0c runtime from June 08 (or later) is required.
If you get blocky shadows that's because your card doesn't support filtering floating point textures.
And if you get white/gray objects and a *really* low framerate, your card most likely doesn't support PS 3.0
tradition verpflichtet. auch beim fußball.

That was very ugly. Oh, and quite a feat to actually list "concept" as a credit when it's from a very well-lnown PS2 game.

SquoQuo is definitely one of the more unique groups in the scene. This demo proves it once again ;) Sure the gfx may seem to look challenged but I can acknowledge this as either design decision or lack of graphician. Whatever it is, the sfx are really smooth, code seems fine and the idea of course - ripped or not - still is awesome!
rulez added on the 2008-12-09 11:20:36 by Paralax Paralax
How does a ripped idea make someone else unique?

So much wasted potential it makes me cry. "Funny" prod or not, why does it have to be so incredibly ugly and sloppily executed?

Very nice music though.

too flippin' ugly for my graphician's peace of mind... tho the idea is admittedly kinda cool (no matter if it's ripped)

Gloom: first of all you will find that you can see ripped artefacts in most demos, heck it's even merely impossible to build content without relating to ideas, techniques or styles which were there before. One may even say that the concept of creativity is by itself not too much apart from the concept of ripping and you can clearly see extensions on the katamari idea I've never seen before such as the endscoller.

May it be as it be - your question is not relating to what I've been saying anyways because I never said that the realization of the idea makes SquoQuo a unique group. They are doing their thing and come away with it. It's completely clear to me that their style will not please the crowds in a way others are desperately trying to. Still they won't stop and this opportunism is for me more honest and unique than what many others are doing.

And because of guys like Paralax we'll keep doing it this way.
Cheers!

Katamari Damacy was indeed awesome, but just taking that idea and doing it again (badly) is not.

No point in going on though, as I'm clearly wandering into the german-friend-voting-zone here.

Beh. This sure sucked donkey's balls! Ugly and boring. A concept based on objects randomly intersecting each other? No thanks!

The usual squoquo thing: Nice idea, ugly implementation. ;)

Bugged as hell on my machine. Based on the video it seems technically decent but it looks pretty ugly...
seems to be time again to announce that we are looking for a 3d-graphician with decent abilities. desperately. since years. Hopper has to do gfx himself. (It's not that we do not announce this regularly, but it still seems to be unknown to most of the posters here). Don't pick on bad graphics when a coder did them and everybody knows so... ;-)

scythoior: Eh, what? Having your coder do your graphics is supposed to somehow change our minds about how ugly it is? Clueshoppe, next stop!
added on the 2008-12-10 17:23:25 by kusma kusma
kus ma bite, you really got a point.
it's just that we are so sad not to have good gfx-member(s) that we sometimes have to cry it out (loud) :-/
but nonetheless we will go on making demos with shitty gfx until some graphician will have a heart and help us out or until we get shot or so ;-)

uglier version of katamari ?
added on the 2008-12-11 15:28:04 by comankh comankh
comankh: and not only that!

it's also:
- not interactive
- has only one "level"
- "level" is extremely small
- why the f.ck is the exe like 36mb?!?!
- the main part is only about 3 min. long
- the improvised soli in the music are somehow not really... can't describe
- the colors...
- the mixing...
- the angles...
- the cuts...

(I just thought I'll spare you some time, so that you can simply post "what scy said at last" or so ;-)

SquoQuo - growing trash skillz forever :-D
