Platform thumb!

This is a first game with sound for TIM-011, school computer from Yugoslavia form 1987. It is considered that there are at most around 10 of these machines left in the world, they were mostly scrapped or thrown away long ago. Almost all the software for it is lost, as almost nothing was preserved. So, it was a time to give it a proper Tetris clone.

Part of this task was contacting Leuat, author of TRSE, to add TIM-011 support, and he gladly did it (many thanks!). Then, there was a huge effort to make graphics and system libraries for the machine (they are now part of TRSE), my friend Marko adapted PTX player code for it, and we found a nice tune to go with the game, "Tetris 2 Red Dawn" by Frantisek Fuka. Many interactions with Leuat followed, as he improved Z80 support in TRSE, and Rascal language itself. So, in the end, TIM-011 got a Tetris clone, and TRSE became better Z80 programming environment.

Game source code will soon be available as a TRSE example.

Great platform and awesome to bring a Tetris game to it in 2024.

That looks like a really solid Tetris port with good music and that cool screenshake effect when clearing out several lines at once.
Extra kudos for going for such an obscure platform and having to pretty much start from scratch with the development process.

Platform thumb, but somehow leaves more to be desired. Still very okay and playable Tetris game!

Of course!

Obscure platform thumb. But it would deserve a thumb for the effort as well, getting an actual working computer from almost 40 year old parts literally rescued from the trash if I understand correctly is crazy.

Thank you all for kind words!

@edhellon: my computer was only partly rescued from the trash, the thing I wrote is that most of computers were destroyed, so not much is left generally, either hardware or software.

Last year a TV crew was making a documentary about the company that made the machine (they did a lot of stuff, and they are also doing a lot today), and it turned out that even they did not have a working machine, only a wooden prototype for the case. So they somehow found me, and my machine was used in the movie, just to show how it worked... That is the sad state of keeping our own computer history in Serbia.

My friend Marko and me spent a lot of time figuring out how the machine worked, what is video memory layout, how OS (CP/M) is organized, and so on. Those findings were used by a MAME developer to finish the emulator (first working version is from about a year ago), and also were used to make libraries for TRSE, image and font conversion tools, and so on.

Anyhow, the sources for the game can be found here, if anyone is interested:
