The first page of the demos were enjoyable; is there any other means of getting tot he 2nd page other than RMB?

Enter a monitor (HRTMon or similar, search for $0839 000A 00df f016 and change $000A to $0002. Might fix your RMB problems.

Thanks Stingray for taking the time! But that doesn't fix it for spkr... we just tried. To my understanding this can't fix it, as #10 and #2 are equivalent here, as only the lower 3 bits are used for the bit index. Also it wouldn't explain why it works elsewhere, and many times before...

There is a working TEK demo that works with `my' right mouse button click; perhaps you guys can compare notes ;) ?

Bifat: technically, btst #10 is wrong (in the same way as the commonly used btst #14,$dff002 to check the blitter busy flag) but shiould not make any difference as it's automatically converted to the correct byte value anyway.
It was worth a try anyway as it can be quickly checked.

Other things I'd try: is the mouse check in an interrupt (level 3)? If so, does moving the RMB check out of the interrupt change anything?

And another thing: are you writing to POTGO ($dff034) by any chance? If so, check if the values are correct and, for a quick test, disable any POTGO access and see if that changes anything.

@spkr: In this prod, I also use btst #10 for rmb. So it should come from something else.

Yes, it's in a level 3 interrupt. I currently do not, but once tried to enforce the correct state by writing $0f00 to POTGO, as dissident suggested, to no avail. I thought spkr's issue might be related to the menu being trackloaded before the system initializes DOS library, as productions later started from DOS doesn't have a RMB problem.

I have checked and there are writes to $dff034 in the Crap Box -12 code (right before enabling DMA channels and setting the copperlist). Trackloading the menu should not cause the problem in my opinion, that the RMB works when productions are started from DOS makes sense as the Kickstart sets the correct POTGO values in that case.
