Looks cool but I couldn't get the car to move using JKCEmu. Hence no thumb yet as I want to play the game first. :)
Controls:
S : start engine
G : initiate gear shift
^ : accelerate / shift up
v : brake / shift down
< : turn left
> : turn right
<BRK> : quit game
<SHIFT> : accelerate while steering
H : Highscore in main screen

I know the controls as I checked the readme before starting the game. But still couldn't get the car to move. So either a bug in the emulator or I'm just not worthy. :D

The procedure for driving off is:
1. start engine [S]
2. hit the gas pedal shortly [^]
3. shift up [G], then [^]
4. accelerate [^]
go ahead with 3. until the 4th gear is reached
(Just as like a real car.) ;-)

In order to eliminate potential ambiguities in the documentation:
The steering of the car is done by using the cursor keys, of course (not character keys).
<CUP> ↑ : accelerate, <CUD> ↓ : brake, <CUL> ← : turn left, <CUR> → : turn right
