Requires a 68020 to move the sinscroller & the rasterbar at full framerate.
I don't know how you people manage to do your prods but it looks to me that you're coding them the wrong way.

1987 is calling
I find it quite amusing that the coder of this thing bashed one of my productions for "not being better than the original."... :D
Crack intros are supposed to run a plain and bog standard A500 if the game that is cracked is working on that very configuration. They also are one-filers in 99% of the cases. And asking for Paypal donations for doing Amiga prods is well, lame!
You have successfully (re)made an intro which would've been considered bad back in the day already but you even made it worse by making it run slow as hell on an 68000 machine. I would really like to know you can make these effects THAT slow...
Anyway, this one really annoyed me during the compo so thumb goes down.

Instead of releasing a bunch of different productions at one party for the same platform, why do you not pull your resources together and focus on making 1 decent one?
seconding 4play and stringray on their comments. why does a group with over 20 years of experience behind their backs need to release such productions?
Quote:
My crack intro should run at full frame rate given a minimum of an A500 with 512 KB Chip ram and 512 KB (real) Fast ram.
Haha, sure thing, do you actually test your stuff on the intended hardware? Full frame rate on A500 my ass!

I am glad I have annoyed you during the compo ... next time make sure you have read the readme file regarding the requirements, before writing such a lame comment ... Stay well lamer :)
I always like to entertain people. Especially those using the term lamer without knowing what it actually means. Also, it's nice to know the reading the requirements for such "good" intro makes the code run faster by miracle. :D
Not to mention that you are quite a clairvoyant as you know what people are doing...
You should have been a professional entertainer, you're good at it. Now, if only your code would be half decent I could take you seriously. But keep providing the entertainment, you always make me laugh. :D
Ackerlight Menace crack intro from 1988 at least has better colours :)
Yeah, this was really bad.
Why?
Quote:
The cracktro requires 512 KB of real Fast ram
Why?
To give you some positive feedback: you really caught the late 80s vibe with that intro.
But honestly: Why release 3 intros at the same compo? Why not doing one single proper thingie??

The cracktro requires 512 KB of real Fast ram (memory connected directly to the cpu bus, as opposed to the so called slow ram).
But why?
I mean, apparently you are aware of 'slow ram', so I assume you know that due to design limitations, real fast ram is not possible on an Amiga 500/500+ without modifications to the motherboard.
Getting back to the comments above: no cracktro from the 'golden era' of Amiga 500 required 'real' fast ram, and they ran in 1 frame, just on a common unmodified 512k chip, 512k chip + 512k slow or 1m chip config.
I am talking about trapdoor memory expansions of course. Sidecar memory could be fast. But such configurations are extremely rare.

Aside from the memory/speed issues, only the mercy of "Stealthranger" Charlie got this prod accepted to the compo. The rules clearly state: "one single file".
Motivation thumb
Instead of calling Stingray "troll" and "lamer", you should ask him for advice because he could teach you how to make real cracktros that work on A500 with slow RAM or even unexpanded.
Seriously, I can't understand how it is possible that you have not yet made a tiny effort to learn, for example, how to include all the data in a single executable. You are part of a group, right? Ask your mates at least before release a mess.
Motivational piggie. Hoping you improve a bit soon.

In my learning path, with my cracktro, I have explored the old-school 1 pixel sine scroller effect, reshaping the code to make use of the real Fast ram.
This feels more like an excuse to just be lazy and not actually learn anything. If you'd have presented something that wouldn't normally work good enough on the standard 512k/512k configuration, then it would be a whole other thing. But as it stands I see no reason, other than laziness, for this intro to require fast ram...
Quote:
I program for my interest and passion and I am satisfied with my result.
Yeah, we're all doing this for the thousands of prize-moneyz, daaang!
And let me tell you what, if we'd all be "satisfied" by our productions, there wouldn'd have been an Amiga demo competition since years.
That's the fucking point: you're never really satisfied.
dunno anything about the technical side. it looks really dated. but i liked the neat tune. so i think a piggie is fair enough.
Quote:
To my knowledge the A500+ is not affected by the design limitations you mentioned.
Amiga 500+ has 1m chip ram standard, no slow/fast. Trapdoor memory will be chipram, as far as I know, not fast.
Quote:
And the Amiga 68000 OCS / ECS is also A2000 and A600 where the real Fast ram is more popular.
It is? I don't think A2000s were ever very popular among sceners, especially not with expansions, because they're just too expensive.
I had an A600 myself, and never expanded it, because 1 mb chip was all I needed.
I just think any kind of OCS/ECS machine with fast mem was quite uncommon, and certainly would not have been a target of cracktros in the 80s/early 90s.

as a real amigan i can cast my vote on this

An Emulator is an Emulator! :P Even if it has a tickbox for "cycle-exact-emulation", ticking it won´t provide a 100% result as in running it on Real Hardware!
So, TESTING on Amiga means running it on actual Hardware, eventhough UAE is really well done, it won´t ever be as good to give you 100% certainty your prod will run the same on real hw.
Have a heart: ♥
But on the prod itself: You must be doing sth completely wrong there, for what it is you should not need any more than 512kb chipram at all.

By the way these trolls never ever have released a single decent prod!
Seriously, drop the attitude and try to learn from this experience. Going on a revenge thumb down rampage doesn't make this prod any better, and will only make you look like an asshole.
If you took offence to a fair warning regarding your behaviour, then that's your problem. But hey, feel free to prove my point and revenge thumb down my prods too...
@AlienTech
People only started taking potshots at you, personally, after you responded to valid points about your production by calling people lamers and giving them revenge thumbdowns, and started trying to rally all "real Amigans" to your defense in the oneliner.

Asshole you better say to someone else.
Sigh, reading comprehension goes a long way. I didn't call you an asshole, I said you make yourself LOOK like an asshole if you continue to behave this way. Two quite different things.
And regarding encouraging new coders, you have had supportive comments in your previous prods, but there's a limit to everything. You can stay on Amiga-forums if you want participation trophies, but in the demoscene you're unfortunately judged by what you actually produce, and not just applauded for the fact that you're creating something.
In a nutshell, show some real progress and stop making excuses for you weird decisions regarding your prods.
The tune is nice :)
Yeah, this isn't something you "proudly present", and the hypocrisy meltdown that followed was far more entertaining than the actual product.
The retro feeling of the Amiga crack intros of late 80s is recreated and preserved, I do believe.
+ 1 pixel sine scroller
+ copper bar
+ J. M. Jarre music remake
Can someone confirm that the prod actually runs in 1 frame given the above requirements?
It is a pity the page prod has been sort of "vandalized", this should not happen.

Agreed, the author should learn to be more humble, vandalizing his own prod's page with those ridiculous statements really should not happen. It is a pity the page prod has been sort of "vandalized", this should not happen.
AlienTech: Your attitude trigger the pouët gang-mentality and that is something you don't want. Listen to or ignore the criticism is probably the best option.
El Topo: "Gang mentality" is a load of horseshit in this case tbh. Or maybe you are trying to say in an extremely convoluted way that this prod doesn't suck? LOL ;)
Quote:
the mafia gangsters have removed the AGA compatibility from all my prods
The AGA-category means the demo ONLY works on AGA or has special features when running on AGA-machines. Your prods don't fall under those two categories.
Quote:
Then you have to sanitize all pouet.net sir!
Care to show me any examples of where the AGA-category is misused? Or better yet, why don't you submit a request to correct any potential errors?
Like I said earlier, drop that damn attitude, it's only working against you.
Mebbe this is the new famous "Bits Club"
Quote:
Sir, why you blocked my request to add a web link to the MOD soundtrack?
I haven't got the ability to block anything here, as I'm not an admin.
Quote:
And why you don' t answer my above questions about the frame rate ... ?
You haven't asked me any questions regarding the framerate? Or do you mean the question made by your fake account?
Quote:
Then I can ask you directly: for you does the prod run at full frame rate under the above requirements?
I honestly don't care how it runs with real fast ram, because it should run at full framerate with only chip ram. Which is why you should not be having this attitude when people are pointing it out to you. The requirements for this prod are plain silly.
Look, I understand it feels bad that people don't like your prods. But you're not a newcomer anymore, you've been here for over 4 years and this is your (at least) 5th prod already. We're expecting a bit more from you already, and that's a good thing. Which is why it's so disappointing to see you make things that run worse than similar stuff from over 30 years ago.
I commented on your first prod that not all coding excersises should be released, and this still feels like one. Had this at least worked on the standard A500 config, while still not being good, it would've at least made some more sense.
Get a room already, you two, will ya? ;)
Quote:
I don' t understand why it is not possible to experiment new forms of an algorithm (1 pixel sine scroller), only because you have decided so.
There's nothing wrong with experimenting with new algorithms, but I don't exactly see what's new here. There have been plenty of better 1 pixel sine scrollers on the A500 before, and they didn't even require fast ram.
you might wanna release outside of the compos next time
Quote:
And mine is different and has different requirements
Well, at least the requirements are different, I'll give you that.
This discussion isn't going anywhere anymore though. I sincerely hope you'll show some improvements in your next release (you could, for example, have look at linking the data files to the executable and putting the music player in an interrupt).
Quote:
And mine is different and has different requirements.
Yours is inefficient and has ridiculous requirements. If you have a personal attachment to your experiment, that's quite allright, but don't expect the rest of the world to share your fondness.
Quote:
If your suggestion was refused there will be a reason on your account page.Sir, why you blocked my request to add a web link to the MOD soundtrack?
.
lol cmon man
Even Atari demos have more snazz than this! (aka free glop)
alientech, then it's time for you to visit an optician i guess :)
what was the comment on the refusal on your account page? then i can tell you...
most likely you didn't use "soundtrack" as label for the link
thumb because
.
I mean, I never had an Amiga so I have virtually no clue if this is well written or not, but I can't imagine a DYCP scroller + rasterbar + chiptune to be something worth getting into a fight about?
britelite gets the most patience answering a ridiculous thread award.
the intro itself is nothing special.
alientech's attitude to the feedback is just sad to witness. please stop to learn with the criticism you are getting instead of feeling insulted. thumbdown for the self-inflicted drama.

You could be right. What I'm trying to say is the attitude in question will only give this prod more negative response. My knowledge in the "hidden" meaning of English expressions is a bit limited.

Hell no!
“Thank you Menace Cracktro for your commentary last night. Very fair—we are making HUGE progress together!”
Piggy up for AlienTechs' "I take no shit from you people" attitude! :D
Keep coding and doing your thing dude!

i heard i can have free popcorn here?
nice music, retro feeling
Hmm... A bit meh. Also unsure why this requires 512k of Fast RAM.
Weak...
