i'm loving the fact that you're "loosing" your time at amiga, but "1k intro" ended up the best compo at this year's assembly, so... :))

The problem is, expectations are too high. Everybody need to start making more crap and entering it in compos. Stop caring about thumb-downs and Pouet in general. Thumb counts don't matter. Thumb counts are for idiots. Don't be an idiot.

Well, IMHO the fractal compo-filler compo can go. You can enter your awesome 1k into a 4k compo and win if it's really good. This happened.

I agree: let's have both. It's a totally different kind of challenge. What I would like to see is a "naked" 64k where the executable has to be self-contained: no external engines or libraries. All code that the intro uses has to be IN the exe (hardware 3D is probably still OK, though).

Anyone wonder why 64k went away from Asm in the first place? Remember the compo with only 1 entry? The 64k category remains broken, until people start making and watching intros just for fun again. There are three types of demos: the good, the fun and the serious. It used to be all about the good and the fun, but then the serious raised its ugly head.

One could argue Fairlight killed the Asm 64k compo. It seems after they wiped the floor years in row, people just couldn't be assed anymore. That's probably a wrong attitude tho.

anyway, looking at the democompo releases im sure a nice mercury 64k would have won it (yes, even gamers know how much 64k is), so why not submit it there and maybe make a little bit of fuzz about it so you get some competition?
Once 64ks start to dominate the demo compo im sure the orgas will think hard about bringing the compo back =)
