I hesitated if I should comment this at all. In the end I respect you and your (obvious) coding skills, but size for the price of literally everything makes no sense to me.

"This is a sizecoding exercise to code a playable chess engine in 256 bytes."
reading more of the article (how to play) tells me personally that it is not playable at all. Here it really isn't because it does not run on my xp sp3 machine. So a video would be nice.

The code might be good (I really don't know, I got the dumbs) but as a game it's nothing. Sorry.

Pointless exercise and fake RSI release as usual.

Underlines the point at which it'd probably be good to realize the size doesn't anymore justify the compromises. Good demonstration of the fact that a reasonable implementation chess probably can't be done into 256 bytes.

what if we met people?

and I see immediately that it can be smaller by at least 3 bytes, but what's the point.

maybe the real chess was the friends we met along the way

I hope you won't complain again next year when this will not be nominated in the best interactive Meteoriks award.

The idea to make a chess game in 256 bytes is good. It is an interesting challenge, and the code shows that the author is skilled in size optimizing. This deserves a thumb up.

I bet it could be done in 64 bytes if you removed everything except pawns.

The sourcecode and accompanying article about Chesslin was also released in Phrack magazine just this week in LineNoise section of Volume 0x0f, Issue 0x45, Phile #0x04 of 0x10
It is a good way to bind anew and ping old phreakers :)
amazing coding skills!

It doesn't play by the rules of chess, so it's not chess.
