Superb size coding.
I dig.

Very nice, except the time "JS1K" starts to get bigger is too long :)

sooo, when will the rules / deadlines for 2015 be up, there's nothing on the JS1K website?

It wouldn't matter if it was 100k.. this is really nice

I think the only delay before it expands is a bit too long though. Or maybe I just don't have any patience :/

I took a look at the code, what's the benefit of using performance.now() ?

surely just incrementing a counter in each main function call would save another few bytes?

lovely!

THANKS everyone.
Hope some of you will try to do something for JS1k.

Sorry about the long delay before the JS1k logo zooms out to show the little scene behind. I must have over-compensated for the time-stretching induced by watching this invit a hundred times.

mog, rez: Somehow I knew you two would like the visuals :)

juice: Size wasn't a problem with this prod. Heck, the JS1k logo thing was a late addition to build up the prod and burn ~200 bytes.

performance.now() ensures the prod runs at the same speed everywhere. Also I used requestAnimationFrame(u) which is more verbose but more mobile friendly than a setInterval(u,15).

About the rules and deadline. The rules of JS1k haven't changed much since 2010. The shim should be pretty similar too. As for the deadline, I think the organizer said JS1k 2015 will run for one month.

Cute!

Only thing I don't like: The train goes through the mountains (trees?). Just looks wrong to me. Also, some "cho-cho" audio is missing. But maybe there was no space left for that. Other than that: Great work, as usual. :)

wow!
an informative, welcoming & cute invitation... in 1K! Quite an achievement.
Well polished also.

I love it.

@p01: makes sense, why optimize something away if it's not needed...
I started my entry early last year and completely missed the theme of the compo, so I'm waiting this time :)
Also, didn't last years shim introduce audiocontext? who knows, maybe we get WebGL or something this year ...
added on the 2015-01-30 10:23:46 by juice juice
tomaes: Thanks. Yes, the trees and other particles are drawn from left to right with a hint of top-down order. They should be drawn from top to bottom.

My daughter also complained that she couldn't hear the train :p

juice: Actually these two things are performance optimizations, along with the way things are drawn in the main loop ;)

Basically any API, that's supported in both Firefox and Chrome ( & friends ) and doesn't give access to external ( as in online or from the local file system ) resources is in!

This means AudioContext, webGL, webCam & microphone, webWorkers, ... are in. What's definitely out is XHR, fileAPI, webRTC, ... and things like cookies and localStorage are most likely out of question as they can too easily leak to other entries on js1k.com

  JS1k 2015 is ON! \0/

You have until 1st of March to submit a JS1k entry.
See the rules.
Now go and make a tiny demo about it.

great, but i do recommend that you use some other font next time.
rulez added on the 2015-02-19 17:59:25 by MuffinHop MuffinHop
Which font ? The one for the texts that scroll horizontally with the landscape or the big cut-out JS1k logo ?

Unfortunately there aren't many fonts usable across platform out of the box :\
added on the 2015-02-19 21:34:29 by p01 p01
Very lovely, I especilly love how it looks on the zoom-level as on the screenshot. Love the "js1k" typeface.

p01, texts that scroll horizontally with the landscape. Does not really fit in imho.

branch: Do you mind sending me screenshot. On my rigs, these texts have a cartoony font that I thought work well ( better than serif, sans-serif, monospace or fantasy ) with the "illustration" type of visuals here.
added on the 2015-02-19 23:30:34 by p01 p01
I think the code asks for "cursive" iirc? On this particular box cursive seems to be an alias for Comic Sans MS. Maybe that's what branch meant?
Decent and small!

no download no prod
added on the 2015-10-18 17:35:21 by Pirx Pirx
How, or why is that a problem ?

This is a web prod, just one click away for anyone visiting Pouet, Twitter, Facebook, Hacker News, you name it ... Do you plan to watch/play it again later, off line ?

I'm honestly wondering about the use of a packaged version for self contained web prods.
added on the 2015-10-19 15:07:28 by p01 p01
I'm honestly wondering why the fuck you constantly say "no download no prod" to WEB. BASED. PRODS.

Viewing it in a browser? YOU JUST "DOWNLOADED IT".

Do you have a Ctrl key? Do you have an S key?

On topic, this is ofc lovely :)
