A 256b that doesn't feel just like a single effect experiment? Hell yeah. The music helps the impression.

Impressive

I would like to thank Hellmood for turning fluid64 into this funky 256 byte intro and for the fantastic midi-sound.

Feels bigger than 256 bytes

nice "concept" and music

Seems that each Dosbox entry ran like throttled to 1% CPU speed or something. Everywhere else it runs just fine. So, if you think this deserves a better ranking, then tell a friend to thumb this up ^^

This is actually pretty cool, even though it came 16th :D
rulez added on the 2014-10-05 16:29:10 by dila dila
Unbelievable how you can squeeze all that stuff into just a few bytes. Amazing, really!
rulez added on the 2014-10-05 21:07:19 by Dascon Dascon
Congrats! It's a pitty that it wasn't run very well at the party.

Very neat. Would have deserved to rank much higher. Also, what noby said.

Did this happen for every entry? Most of the stuff came fine even if they might be needy. Or did they run half of intros in dosbox and other in real machine?
added on the 2014-10-05 21:58:32 by Optimus Optimus
Well, you could pinpoint - visually - which entries were heavily throttled down, and i know just one system which can be issued to do that, teh beloved DosBox. Your entry, obviously. But this one also, and i think at least another one. I know that "cycles=auto" can produce such behaviour, but i even sent a config file where it is definitely set to MAX. So one guess is, somebody changed it to AUTO because hey, sounds good right? Or it was set to "auto" by default and actually never changed.
added on the 2014-10-05 22:18:08 by HellMood HellMood
I think I noticed cycles MAX in my entry, but not sure.
Also, I notice now it crashes in real DOS after 2-3 frames. On 386sx. And then even on Windows XP. Ahh,. the joys of developing in dosbox and not in real machine :P

I mean my intro, not this one. Might try to fix it. Maybe..

Brain fucked. How in hell could this be in the 16:th place!?!
This is one of the better 256bytes i have seen.

Well, that's yet another case of a prod getting poor votes because of a party screwup. It really should've been one of the top 3 256b entries. When I heard the tune play on the YouTube vid, I thought it was just added on top of the video. Of course after downloading it and running it on DosBox (Properly configured of course!) and reading the NFO things became clear!

Still, a really nice tune with some cool synced visuals! Yeah, the effect isn't that great and has been done before already and the ESC doesn't bring you back to textmode, but that's what you gotta deal with if you wanna have a tune in a 256b.

Awesome! Nice effect and good music especially considered the size.

hellmood: i've used _your_ config for _all_ dosbox 256 byte intros - i created the directory structure which was in your config (cd c:\dos\asm\).
rulez added on the 2014-10-06 22:56:36 by pasy pasy
pasy: DosBox normally expects the config file in "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\DOSBox". Can you confirm you or somebody else placed it there, or overwrote the default config? It is not sufficent to place the config next to the com file.

How did this one end up 16th??
rulez added on the 2014-10-07 10:06:30 by Preacher Preacher
Everybody, just ignore the 16th and judge for yourself ^^ and also, check the Remix ;)
added on the 2014-10-07 17:11:35 by HellMood HellMood
Bit too easy to see and hear what's been done. MIDI doesn't really fit in with doing a lot with little.

Nice. Did yu use the Clifford A. Pickover algorithm with Markov Numbers of p.27 of his "Computer and the Imagination - Visual Adventures Beyond The Edge" book in chapter entitled Grown Your Own Font" ?

That's what happened. I liked fluid64, then remixed it, and later embedded it into a bigger context. Just compare the sources ;) I'm sure the hex signatures still match bigtime (i applied small changes to rudis code)

Thanks anyway for the information, looks interesting :)
