"german poems"? Those were only a few words, actually... Anyway, one of the most innovative demos of the year 1996 and maybe ever, cool concept art and just by the way the only software engine fast enough for 640x480 (maybe except the quake1 engine :) ... and this since 1996.

The Realtech engine wasn't as fast and was only an object viewer, not a full-fledged engine :) But ok, you got me here, the truth is somewhere in the middle .
Realtech's stuff (Countdown, DX Project) was a lot faster on my 486-75 than IKES, which crawled. I forgot how it ran (or if it ran at all!) on my 6x86-150.
But, I think IKES had textured objects while Countdown did not. And stuff like the heart looked more complex. So I'll give you and Purge some credit. :)

The poetry is pointless, but the engine was fucking hardcore in 1996. At least, it scared me big time.
speaking of german poetry: the guy who wrote INTERPRE.TAT has just a totally great sense of humour. this demo is still above today's average of today's demos concerning athmosphere and overall appeareance (music, design, attitude). great demo.
for you non-german speaker: it's a great bret easton ellis-style text involving women, drugs, sex and violence. and coding ;)

Clearly the best Purge demo, nice design. Unluckily it seems that it don't likes MSDOS 7.x, it always crashes on half the way (was better with MSDOS 6.2)

Such a darkness and visuals and the strange poems which are either english or german and german makes it more beloved for me and atmospheric even though some lyrics I don't get them (addicted to the penis? hahaha), still very unique for it's time!

I have a soft spot for both scene poetry and fonts. This demo hits with both. The engine, mood, and some attempts at theme integration were pretty good too, especially for the day.

Well this started out really nicely, good music and nice morphing plane deformantions but... meh, the 3d, the monotonousness and even the track wasn't able to keep its original excitement up.

It's good quality, but rather slow in some parts. That does recreate the 1996 viewing experience. :) I tried capturing it myself in DOSBox, and couldn't run it much faster without the text overlays disappearing or it crashing midway through. Still, I got the slow parts going about twice the speed, so if you want I could upload my capture.
